Most Under-used Player On Your Team?

Sabres: Adam Mair

Is one of a few players who possess the grit and heart that the team as a whole is lacking. Is capable offensively (7 points).

4th line, <10 mins per game

For the Stars, I'd say Pierre Turgeon. He's been our best forward in quite some games, and until the last 2 games he hasn't gotten the icetime he trully deserved. Now he seems to get mre confidence of Tipp which even resulted in some minutes next to Modano.

Others could be Young and/or Kapanen, but both haven't showed nor proved management why they should be used more.

Vancouver: Trevor Linden. he does get 15+ mins of ice time, and time on the PP and PK, but we need to play him MORE!

Couldn't agree more. Adam Mair is a guy I've wanted the Canucks to get for a long, long time now. A while ago, I proposed a Canucks deal sending RJ Umberger for Adam Mair on another board (this was before RJ was holding out, and May was signed). I like him that much.

Hell, May & RJ for Mair & a pick or something! Heh heh.

For the Canucks, the most underused player in my mind is the entire 2nd line. Because they don't play on the PK and the top line eats most of the PP time, the Sedin's/King only play like 12/13 minutes a game, compare that to Linden's 15 - 16 or so, and Cooke's 14 - 15. The Twins/King have been the Canucks best line in about half the games we've played this season, and at times, have been the most dominant players on the ice. I'd like to see them get much more power play time, even at the expense of Naslund & Bertuzzi.

A team would have to overpay to get Mair. Adam is one of a handful of players that Regier is counting on to stabilize the team post-CBA. He locked him up for 3 or 4 seasons in September and that's a huge commitment by Regier standards. That said, he needs more ice-time!!

Flyers: Simon Gagne

He is starting to get back into goal scoring mode and he is on the checking line w/ Preems and Kapanen. He should be moved up with Handzus and Williams like they were in the preaseason. With Zeus heading up that line, it would be scoring as many goals as Roenick's line. Him and Williams are two of the fastest guys on our team. This line needs to reform. It's a win-win for the Flyers. Leclair, to me, would fit perfectly with Preems and Kapanen because he is a big guy who is very hard to move in front of the net. It would get him back in the habit of playing physical which is something he has gotten away from in past years.

Isles --- Justin Mapletoft. 6 minutes a game is not enough to develop. At least give the kid some penalty kill time, he was pretty good at it when he was up last year.

Overused --- Peca. Please take him off the powerplay. Why does he see more power play time than Blake, who has been one of the Isles best forwards the past two years?

Chris Neil.. Averages about 7 minutes a game. Has some talent for a tough guy.

As his game improves and start becoming more confident, Spezza's ice time would be more than the 12 minutes or so he plays.

Steve McCarthy. He has been the best Defenseman so far this year (no competition, now that Klemms gone), but still only gets to play #4/#5 minutes while Alexander Karpovtsev is allowed to be #1 and shoot goals into our own net.

Death to Sutter.

Up until Monday, I would have said Ron Hainsey is the most underused. Maybe he still is, there's no way he should be in the AHL.

I'm just glad you didn't mention Kilger.

I would say Sundstrom for Montreal. He's been used terribly, and hasn't had a stable line to play with.

Another option would still be Bulis in my mind. He's not all that good offensively but he is solid along the boards, keeps his feet moving, isn't a perimeter player, and has enough puck skills to maintain puck possession and distribute the puck well. He also isn't shy when it comes to shooting, which is something Montreal's top 6 forwards could use outside of Zednik.

For Detroit...
Darryl Bootland.
Has performed very well with his limited playing time in Detroit during his call up. I'd love to see him regularly on a line with Maltby and Draper or Yzerman and Shanahan. Maybe he could help light a fire under Shanny's ass with his gritty play and ability to get under the opponents' skin.

Jiri Fischer is another. Lewis was playing him 20 minutes a night during the first 7 or 8 games in the season and he played pretty damn well. If he got some PP time instead of Jason Wooley he'd have some pretty good numbers right now.

For The Kings... I'd say no one.... With all the injuries even our 4th line is seeing a pretty good amount of icetime.

I would second the lundmark comment, if only he got a chance to show his skills it would be tough to take his time away. Then again its the rangers we are talking about.

For ottawa I would have said vermette until he got sent down.

for tampa I would say dave andreychuk

the only player IMO who is under-used on the Canucks is Cooke... he should be getting PP time, but doesn't get any...

Linden, as much as I love the guy, is getting 15mins a game and has time on both special teams - and in stretches that's first unit on both special teams... at this stage in his career Linden is a 3rd liner - albiet a great one for us - but still not really a top 6 forward anymore.

He's also used in all critical situations - last minute of a game, key faceoffs, key shutdown roles.

If anything we're over-using him!

I'd also like to see Allen get more icetime - not by much mind you... maybe dig into Malik's minutes a bit.
