Ribeiro to Washington

What do Stars fans think it would take to get it done?

I'm assuming the most likely candidate is a deal built around Marcus Johansson. I could get behind that (though I'd be squeamish with only one year remaining on Ribeiro's deal). Is that agreeable with fans in Dallas?

What other possibilities (1st rounder, Stanislav Galiev, Mathieu Perreault, Dmitry Orlov, Cody Eakin) exist?

Would something around Cody Eakin and Mathieu Perreault work? Perreault was on a ~50 point pace when in the top 6 last year and Eakin definitely qualifies as an NHL ready prospect (sure fire bottom six energy guy right now with top 6 potential down the line). Could throw in a 2nd round pick.

I'd be pretty interested in your 1st rounders as well.

Johansson straight up would be fine with me, doubt Washington fans go for it.

Eakin and Perrault sounds okay, too.

No interest in Perreault for me. I just don't see it.

I'm a huge fan of Johansson and I would love to see him on the Stars. I like Orlov a lot as well. Just not sure if him and Larsen (and factoring in Daley) can all co-exist in a 6 man defense corp.

I'd do Johansson, Orlov for Ribs and picks coming or going from either side.

I'm not really sure we can pick up another defenseman, especially if we draft one this year.

Sub Orlov for Eakin?

I could probably live with Orlov and Perreault for Ribeiro. Would be a tough pill to swallow. If you had a 3rd pairing defenseman with decent puck moving skills you could throw in it would make it a lot better (Daley is a 2nd pairing guy for you, right?).

Certainly wouldn't do Johansson + Orlov though.

Why do the Capitals think they need a number 2 C? It boggles my mind, Johansen/Backstrum seem like epic 1 2 combo...

instead of starting a new Ribeiro thread, I might as well post here. If Jokinen hits free agency I would like to get Ribs to Calgary.

Could something be worked around Backlund+ ?

Also I'd be willing to take on Robidas if it lowers Ribeiro's value

As much as I would like to hang on to Johannson because I do believe that he will develop into a great top 6 forward once he stops making the rookie mistakes all young players make...Mike Ribeiro is that great player now and the type the Caps need on the second line.

Johannson and the 11th should be enough value for a 32yr old with only one year left on his contract. Wouldn't mind kicking in something like Boston's 2nd round pick and the Caps 5th or instead of the extra picks add Eakin, to really close the deal.

Caps have to fill that second line spot and Ribeiro would do so perfectly.

That's an awfully big plus. The Flames players I am interested in are Bouwmeester and Giordano and not much else that is really available, even though they really aren't available either.

Robidas is a solid 2nd pairing RHD, he has value despite his age.

Johansson spent most of the latter stages of last year on the wing. While he may develop into a high end 2C in the coming years, he's not yet at that stage (more of a 2W or 3C at this point in his career). MoJo has tons of potential, but plenty of areas he needs to improve (faceoffs, board work, and being less predictable being the most poignant).

The lack of depth of the Caps down the middle was particularly exposed when Backstrom went down after Rene Bourque decided it was cool to elbow him in the head. None of Laich, Johansson, or Perreault were able to do a very good job as a first line center. Having a quality 2C like Ribeiro would go a long way to ensure that the Capitals can continue scoring if Backstrom or another top 6 player gets hurt again.

So 11th+Johannson+Eakin/Boston 2nd?

Sounds good to me

Of course it does. That's absurd overpayment for one year of Ribeiro.

wow, that's a huge overpayment. I think you would be lucky to get anything in addition to the 11th over for Ribeiro.

IMO Orlov will be better than Johansson, I'd rather keep him than MJ. Anyway I don't think I would give up either one for 1 year of Ribeiro. I'd offer something like Laich+ for Ribeiro, although I'm not sure the Stars would be interested.

unhappy with mcphee caps fans now think laich stinks and johansson isnt a quality center. they think to win now they need need a near 1c 2c to play behind backstrom.

meanwhile mcphee thinks by all evidence that johansson will be an outstanding 2c which is why he has been playing a primary nhl role starting as a 19 year old rookie last season.

caps arent trading johansson and are very likely not trading for a 2c

The question is not whether McPhee thinks Mackan will be an outstanding 2C. It's whether or not he thinks Mackan can be the 2C on a Stanley Cup winning team before he gets canned. If McPhee thinks he has to win this year to keep his job, Mackan becomes a very valuable, very expendable trade chip.

Who is Mackan?

I'd all for anything with Johansson+.

And btw, it's not like Ribeiro is done after a year. Depending on how far you go in the playoffs, I could see him resigning there in hopes of a cup. And his style of play isn't really one that degrades quickly with age.

That's Marcus' Swedish nickname. Apparently it means sandwich. And no, I don't know why they call him sandwich.
