He scored 25 points in the last 14 games of the regular season after making his return. He had 8 points in 6 playoff games and played 26 minutes in our final game.

Now, by all accounts he is fully healed.

I am not saying that you are wishing ill health on anyone. I just don't think you are really thinking when saying that it is a contract no one should sign. Every GM would.

The Pens have no choice. Lock him up and roll the dice. Keep filling in prospects and junk around he and Malkin and give it a shot every year. It's what you do when you have talents like that.

I'm more interested to see which Malkin we get next year if Crosby is healthy. Should make the Malkin contract interesting...

As Malkin said before he hates to change places... But I think he worths even more than Crosby. Because everybody knows that Crosby will never leave Pens. As to Malkin it can be a different storry. So Pens will have to give Geno the same money as Sid.

Players tend to try and say the right things to the press most of the time. I'm sure an additional $20 mil would make Malkin feel pretty comfortable in any city.

They have a limited time to play. One injury and it's all over. They want to have some security cause once you are injured no one cares about you. It doesn't matter if you were a star or a dud. It's all one and the same.

I don't blame players for trying to rake in money.
avs succeeded at this about ten years ago, it didnt work out as far as winning a cup but they had an allstarteam. selanne and kariya both signed for 1m a year, and theywere very stacked

Why does giving Crosby a $300,000 raise, indicate Staal leaving? The cap has gone up at least 10 million since Crosby signed his first "big contract," 300k is peanuts.

I think all things point to the cap going down for next season. The amount of which will be what determines if there is even a season come October.

you're missing the point. It will still be miles above the 56 mil that it was when Crosby and Malkin signed their first deals. They are due for a substantial raise, not just because of performance but because of inflation. And everything most GMs have said seems to indicate the cap going up but you can twist it whatever way you want to make your point seem salient.
