Congrats to Blues fans, not that there was any doubt he'd get there eventually.

Stars have signed Goalie Christopher Nihlstorp out of Sweden. 6-3, 192. Lefty (Catches right). Two-way deal, but at 28, he will be in mix

I saw someone in the KHL thread suggesting Nihlstrop was coming to North America and have been keeping my eyes open. Surprised at it being Dallas considering the NHL roster is set (Lehtonen and Bachman), the AHL roster has two young goalies (Campbell and Beskorowany). Maybe this means Campbell goes back for one more junior year. He's eligible, isn't he?

No, I don't think Campbell is eligible for another year of juniors, as he is 20. This either means Besko is going to the ECHL, or is going to be traded outright. That would give us 5 goalies under contract, when we're already tight on contracts and playing time.

FF meant Besko going to the ECHL I believe, but the point stands the same.

They'll be including Bachman to sweeten one of the deals that ships out Ott or Ribeiro.

Caley, do you have an official list of who didn't get signed, and if so, which ones are re-entring and which are now UFA's?

Per Capgeek, the Nashville Predators have signed LW Kevin Henderson to a 1 year, 2-way $550,000 contract. Henderson, 25, played last season for Milwaukee of the AHL where he had 4 goals and 11 points in 30 games. He was never drafted.

Also per capgeek, Chris Nihlstorp is on a 1 year, 2-way deal worth $1,000,000 at the NHL level. Seems high when Svedberg signed for $600kish...

Surprised to see him get a two-way NHL contract. He is pretty far down in Nashville/Milwaukee's depth chart.

Should Nick Larson (Washington Capitals) be added to your list?
"April 2, 2012 - Nick Larson, RW – University of Minnesota (NCAA) – 23
Nick Larson, who is in the final year of his NCAA career, appeared to be relegated to the role of cheerleader toward the end of the season. While he did appear in three games, going pointless and plus-1, Larson took a backseat and watched as his freshman teammate Travis Boyd starred on his team’s march to the playoffs. Larson did not blow anyone away with his senior season, and the future of the 2007 7th-rounder within the Capitals organization appears to be bleak."

(not to be confused with the Nick Larson, a prospect of the Flames, who was drafted in 2008 and is playing college hockey for Notre Dame).

Troy Matilla was drafted in 2006 and didn't play college hockey until the Fall of 2008. The Islanders may have lost his rights on June 1, 2008, because he played in the NAHL and USHL for two years.

Carolina/Charlotte is probably Peters' best career option, so he should be bending over backwards to get a deal done.

Muse did well in the ECHL and then in his AHL stint. It should be interesting to see if he can continue the upward trajectory.

NY Islanders sign Johan Sundstrom to his ELC.

Quote:
Sundstrom, 19, scored 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 49 games during his second season with Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League. A native of Gothenburg, SWE, Sundstrom also represented his country at the 2012 World Junior Championships, recording five points (one goal, four assists) with a plus-5 rating in six games to help Sweden capture a gold medal.
Quote:
The Islanders selected Sundstrom in the second round, 50th overall, of the 2011 NHL Draft.

According to this Swedish site, the Nashville Predators are currently negotiating with G Magnus Hellberg and hope to reach a deal by Friday. If signed, Hellberg will either play next season in Nashville, or return to Sweden to play for Frolunda.

I remember a few years back, the Preds had not definte back-up goalie and this young, tall Fin came in and easily took the backup job. If that Swede (Lindback) get's traded, maybe our new 6'6 Swede (Hellberg) takes his place.
