Not a chance. If Josi goes, it has to be for an upgrade at defense or the true top line forward we're missing. This does neither. Our current defense, if Suter left and we made no moves, consists of Weber, Klein, Josi (a sophomore) and 3 rookies. The last thing we need is another unproven rookie defenseman.

Malone for Martin is a deal from the Penguins view.

Fair enough. I've been wanting Josi since the beginning of the year. Also I am in the boat that Suter resigns with you guys.

Keith Ballard and Vancouver's first for Malone. Ballard is on his way to becoming his normal, top four self, and a late first for the big bodied, hard checking Malone. Salaries are essentially a wash, Tampa gets a top four defender that can fill in just about any role needed, Vancouver gets a big powerforward to teach Kassian and possibly Jensen a thing or two, seems to work well.

My only concern is where to put him in our line up when Kesler comes back, as a Booth-Kesler-Malone line wouldn't preform half as well as well as it looks on paper, given our track record.

The only thing is, if we trade Malone I would like to see some cap space open up, not take some more on. That is probably the only reason I would not move for Martin.

Josi is my favorite player in the whole league. he is just criminally under-rated. If Suter re-signs, I think either Josi or Blum is traded, and, while I hope it's blum, I could see Josi going if the right deal came. Hedman-Josi would be absoultely disgusting

Malone has scored 20 or more goals his whole career, except a season or 2. He wouldn't be the weak link on that line. IMO it would be Booth.

My thoughts exactly. I would think Nashville holds on to Josi in that situation though. I also still would not complain about Blum though .

In the 2010-2011 season, Blum got called up (ahead of Josi I might add) and was our 3rd best dman in the stretch run and playoffs, then abosuletly sucked last year and was one of the worst D on our AHL team. If he can get back to where he was in 2010-2011, Josi-Blum could be an awesome 2nd pairing. Or we trade one or the other for a huge return.

Ok, we need a first line center, and I know this isn't the right thread, but I have to throw it out there....

Hornqvist+Blum/Ellis+Lindback for Lecavalier.

Yes, sounds fair for booth teams, but also Martin would have to accept to go to Tampa

Oh, it has nothing to do with Malone being a "weak link", he easily beats Booth IMO, but rather just chemistry issues. Kesler shoots first. Booth shoots first. Malone, as to my knowledge, shoots first. The puck hast to come from somewhere, with three shooters, we'd have to make some adjustments and move Booth up or down, and get a passer/playmaker on the right wing.

Malone would thrive on the Sedins line similar to how Kesler did/does with the Sedins on the PP. Screen the goalie and clean up in the front of the net.

How's this fair for both parties? They're values may be similar but we have no need to trade Malone. If Pitt wants to get rid of Martin and get Malone they need to add something to make us do this.

Completely off topic but...

The cool thing about this would be that Lecavalier went #1 and Legwand went #2 in the same draft class. Kind of how Thornton and Marleau (the year before) are playing together now after being drafted 1st and 2nd overall.

Martin is the ideal defender for a trap system, but horrible for ours.

That deal with the Penguins helps both teams IMO.

I know Malone digs like Burrows, but Kesler working with the Sedins only works on the PP. As a PP contributer, I think he will do as well or better then Kesler, but 5 on 5....well Carter and Burrows are the two wingers that have ever worked. Even Samuelsson, another "ideal" candidate, didn't do as much as they should have.

No complaints about the offer though? Cool.

TB also couldn't be on Martin's list of limited NMC teams where he won't accept a trade, but I don't see that.

Personally, as a Pens fan, I'd move Kennedy and Martin for Malone (and the 2.5M in cap space).

Well then he'd fit somewhere that isn't Tampa. This old horse is beaten to death and not accurate, we need solid puck retrieval and quick feet to play a hard transition game.
