SInce LA won the cup

Do you think LA with be like other teams and give out ridiculous contracts to some of their players for winning the cup. What I am hearing from people is they think Johnathan Quick will be looking for big raise for one really great season.

I think LA if they stay the course they have been doing the last few years they will offer ridiculous contracts.

Quick should be getting paid.
Even without the cup ring he had a Vezina calibre season.

Stoll is a great #3C and the Kelly contract is a great comparison.

Penner is my bet to be overpaid by some GM this year.

Not really. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

I guess you should study Quick's accomplishments, trajectory & potential, then study the comparables, and then define ridiculous vs. reasonable.

And then we'll wait and see what Lombardi does.

Quick's contract extension will be LA's top priority and from all indications, the feeling is mutual and it shouldn't surprise anyone if an agreement is reached shortly after July 1. And Jonathan Quick hasn't been great for only one season. Look at his body of work over the past three years. He's been the anchor on the Kings' defense.

You build from the net out and the Kings have a solid foundation in net. He's going to get a well deserved and earned raise that will keep him in a Kings uniform for the foreseeable future.

The Kings will probably attempt to re-sign Stoll and Fraser. It seems like Stoll really wants to stay and Penner also has expressed his desire to re-sign with the Kings. However, I'm not sure if any of those players will receive a pay increase.

The team Governor, Tim Leiweke, has stated that they will have enough salary cap space to add pieces if need be and it is possible that they make a pitch to get Parise in LA. We'll see if New Jersey even allows Parise to get to July 1 without a contract.

Stoll/Penner (or both) leave because of overpayment.

I am guessing LA doesn't even try to resign Penner(or at least make a legit offer)

I fully expect Quick to get a Rinne type contract (7MM/yr). He's earned it. Happy for him.

I'd be OK with Stoll for $3.0-$3.3MM.

Penner currently makes $4.5MM. I'd be OK with $2.5MM for one yr. He could make more elsewhere, but he seems happy in LA. I would say its up to him.

Kings are fortunate in that they don't have any Albatross contracts (Redden/Gomez/etc). Guys like Williams and Brown are bargains ($3.4 and $3.1MM respectively). Richards and Carter are well worth $11MM collectively. Mitchell and Scuderi are two of the best shutdown guys in the league and combine for $7MM.

Lombardi (and Jeff Solomon - Kings cap guru) have done an excellent job managing the cap. They have plenty of space moving forward to keep Quick, Stoll, and Penner and still go after a free agent.

Also, keep in mind Quick's new contract does not kick in until 2013-2014. Next year he will still be playing for $1.8MM. Gagne's contract expires when Quick's new contract is effective, so I don't see any problems.

I wonder if Penner will re-up cheaply for a year so he can be a part of the Cup defense. He seemed pretty bummed that he didn't get to do it the first time around, with Anaheim.

At a bare minimum, Quick should get a Cam Ward type deal (6yrs, 37.8mil, 6.3mil per). Maybe more.

As another poster mentioned, Stoll is comparable to Kelly (3mil per).

Penner, if willing to accept something in the 2.5-3mil range, would likely be brought back.

Next year won't be a worry for them (Quick still makes 1.8mil next year), but things could get interesting the following year when Quick's new contract would kick in and Brown would be in the last year of his contract. Smooth sailing for now though.

Dean doesn't overpay. He pays what he believe is fair and what works with the cap and is best for the team.

Those two should get decent offers as UFAs just because the much of the free agent market is crap. Stoll is probably the best center that's available, if not one of the top 3. I wouldn't be surprised if he signed elsewhere for north of $4 mil based on the lack of other centers out there. For as much crap as Penner has gotten, I think that he will also get a decent deal if he wants to leave LA. So they will have difficult choices to make this summer.

As for the OP, who else but Quick do they have to offer ridiculous contracts to? Kopitar, Richards, Carter, Williams, and Brown are all locked up for at least 2 more years. Doughty's locked up. Mitchell and Matt Greene are locked up for 2 more years. Scuderi is under contract for 1 more year but he's not the kind of guy that's going to demand big money.

LOL at Quick only being good for 1 season. Guy has cemented himself as a Top 3 goalie in the league over the last couple years, even before that he was very good, just underrated because nobody knew who he was.

Quick is every bit deserving of a 6M contract, and he'll get it from LA.

Dean is smart, he won't overpay anyone. Quick will obviously get a substantial raise. I'm expecting anywhere from 6 to 7 million per year for 7 years. Lets say, purely hypothetically, $6,500,000. I want Stoll to stay and I believe he will. He had an awful year. I would offer 3 million per year for 3 years. I also believe Fraser stays. He was a welcome surprise. I'd offer him 1 million per year for 2 years. I have a feeling Penner is gone. That's $4,250,000 off the books. Hearing the way Gagne has been talking after Monday, I feel he retires. That's another $3,500,000 off the books. King needs a contract too. 1 year at $850,000? Sound good? I also think Richardson is gone at the draft or sometime during the summer. That's $1,175,000 off the books. With all those changes we have roughly $11,100,000 in cap space if the cap is $70,300,000. The signing of a third line winger and possibly someone else is what I expect. No Parise pipe dream here

In Dean We Trust!
