Derek Roy to Anaheim

What would it take to land Derek Roy in Anaheim? Please note, base his trade value on the assumption he agrees to sign an extension, this is the only way the Ducks trade for him.

ducks and sabres are terrible trade partners...youd want roy, we'd want getzlaf. Both teams need center depth I think we'd be lateral partners at best.

I suppose alot of us would kick the tires on Ryan but no one here would be willing to give you the assets necessary for a winger when we still need 1-2 centers

This is pretty wrong. Why do you assume we have to deal Roy for a center? How does that make any sense. Why would somebody trade us a good offensive center for a Roy. You can deal an asset and then use other assets to fulfill that need whilst making your team better. IF you want a #1 center, you're not going to be trading Roy for them.

Unless we're talking a three way trade.

I'd be interested in getting the 6th overall for Roy, however we'd have to manage it. To land one of Grigorenko/Galenwhatever would be ideal. We can use other assets to acquire another good center until they become superstars.

if he agrees to an extension first?

I'd say be prepared to offer Bobby Ryan or the 6th overall

That's why I said "how we'd manage it".

I think you should be able to get Grigs at 6. His stock is falling because he's Russian, which means you could get great value for him. He's like a poor mans version of Malkin but with less risk.

I'd love for the Sabres to roll the dice on him. But that would only work if they were sure he could make the NHL jump either his draft year or the one after.

Id be happy with 6th overall straight up, doubt the whole extension thing would happen though

Why would Roy not want to sign an extension with the Ducks?

I think they'd be a pretty damn good team if they got Roy without losing any significant roster player.

There is a large risk there though, thats the only reason hes not the clear-cut #2 forward in this draft and guys like Galy and Forsberg have surpassed him on many people's boards. This kid could get crazy $$ to play in the khl and frankly id rather keep roy and roll 3 centers next year, or package roy in a different deal than have the next Kuznetsev on our hands.....that being said i do have confidence that TP could throw enough money and confidence at the kid to convince him to stay here so id think long and hard about that deal for sure my friend

I'm not really worried about Galchenyuk, Grigorenko or Yakupov this year despite the Russian heritage. They all decided to play in NA this year to assuage some of the fears they wouldn't want to play in the NHL. They all have the desire to play here, despite the money. I'd take a swing.

Yes, Roy would have to agree to an extension. The Ducks can't have Getzlaf, Perry, and Roy as all UFA the same off-season.

I'd say be prepared to offer Bobby Ryan or the 6th overall
Bobby Ryan is not in play, but I'm willing to trade the 6th overall pick.

roy for the 6th straight up?

Itd be nice to have the 6th,12th and 21st though we'd likely have to move some of those assets to replace roy since we;d then need a 3 and 4 C

Hey guys, can you trade us a player with an extension but we don't want to give up much?

Why don't these wind up on the trade forum? You don't want to give up what Darcy would want. Point blank. Darcy overvalues everything.

And besides, even if WE agree, then what? Here's your pat on the back for the future. /pat

Roy is staying here unless its a knockout. Ring Darcy up at the trade deadline.

I know you would know better than me OP but do the Ducks want to get Roy who's contract is up at the same time as Getlzaf's? Regardless, I'm on board with FSE's proposal.

And enrothorne, I know Darcy holds his players to high value but I wouldn't say it would take a knockout. In virtually all of his interviews after this season, Roy was never mentioned unless he was directly asked about him. In years past Roy would always be mentioned as a focal point of the future. Perhaps I am reading too much into that but maybe I'm not.

The 6th overall pick is likely in play, and no, not just on HFBoards.

Yes, Getzlaf is not in play. The Ducks expect him to sign a long term deal -- Getzlaf said he wants to play his entire career with one team. Of course things can change, but he is a UFA next season so we should know soon enough.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned Roy would have to agree to a contract extension.

Roy for 6th

straight up... no need for Buffalo to add picks and definitely not 12th

The reason buffalo does this deal (roy for 6th)... it gives them better ammo to get to #2 for Galchenyuk

6th, 12th, 21st for #2

I like where your head's at....Id try for 6th,12th and calgary 2nd first...maybe keep that 21st for another shot at a potential 3rd line center i.e gaunce dropping or grigor etc

I'd consider it if Roy signed a ~5 year/28 million contract.

That's so much to give up for the 2nd overall pick. I would never make that trade.
