Washington

washington has the 11th and 16th overall picks this year in the draft. I think they would really want a prospect with the ability to help them this year or at least next. With semin gone they have a hole to fill. How far up do you think they could rise if they wanted to package both picks with one of holtby/neuvirth or mike green? could they manage to get a top 2 pick?

Outsiders perspective:
They should package one of the picks with a prospect or young roster player for an established #2C.

They should keep the other pick and pick up one of the top d-men available.

Pavelski for Johansson and the 11th/16th has been discussed between Sharks and Caps fans.

11th+ for Plekanec at the draft.

It would be based on if habs see a player they like fall to 11th.

Step 1) Trade #16 + for a 2nd line center
Step 2) Draft Radek Faksa at #11 (or use a 2nd to trade up to ensure you get him)
Step 3) ???
Step 4) Profit

IF available. They are both top 5 talents, if not top 3.

I think most caps fans on HFBoards would agree with the general concept of this notion, and trades for Ribeiro (16th + Eakin) and Pavelski (16th + Johansson) have been discussed on the trade board.

Whether McPhee agrees is a whole different matter.

I'd try to send that package without Mac to Ana for #6.

So Grabo + Franson for Ana 2012 1st and rights to Schultz

I'd do it if the + was something minor.

Washington would be better off keeping all their assets than trying to swing a trade.

Why would Anaheim do that? Why?

The Habs would rather have Plekanec there to guide whichever centre prospect they draft, be it Galchenyuk, Grigorenko or Forsberg.

It would make more sense for the Caps to trade the pick to a team who can afford to trade a centre away. What about Pierre-Marc Bouchard or Matt Cullen from Minnesota?

PMB isn't a center, and may or may not even play in the NHL ever again. Matt Cullen is overpaid, old and inconsistent. We don't have center depth to trade away.

When it comes to TML proposals around here, the other teams needs are irrelevant

If Granlund plays well right away, he's your #2. Then you have Koivu, Brodziak and Powe, plus Phillips who I wouldn't say is that far away. Looks like enough depth to justify trading the old guard to stock the cupboards in my mind.

Not saying it'll happen (isn't Cullen really well-liked in Minnesota anyway?), I'm just saying there's logic in making that trade, particularly when it could land you another good defensive prospect behind Brodin.

The Caps haven't been truly dangerous since Fedorov departed for the KHL. Arranging a trade for a top-six veteran center would certainly be an idea most Caps fans could support. It doesn't have to involve those picks, but those are definitely attractive assets that could be used to get there. It would surprise me a little bit if the Capitals are using both of them at the draft.

Pavelski or Plekanec would be nice players to add to the mix. Just add a coach at neither extreme of the trap / run and gun spectrum, and let simmer.

Alternatively, I could see one of those picks dangled before Nashville for the rights to Radulov. I actually have a hard time pegging his value at the moment.

You're right. Plekanec is worth way more than the 11th overall pick + extra.

Would Laich + Perreault/Eakin + 11th work?

Most caps fans wouldn't mind trading the 11th for a good middle-long term solution at 2C I'd imagine.

I'd get another 3C and slide Beagle down but that would be a great offseason
