We could replace Jagr with a veteran who's under 35 and plays better defense.

If we sign Jagr another time for over 1.5 its only a marketing deal. Homer and Snider knows he sell tickets and merchandise as hell. And the flyers stays in attention of the league and worldwide... But he is too old and wonŽt help us in the regular season and surely not in the playoffs... SO iŽam against this signing....

I'm not sure how 54 regular season pts translate into 'won't help us in the regular season'. That's pretty impressive for a 40-year old.

Even if they take him off the first line, he can still contribute on and off the ice.

But I agree, that his salary needs to drop because he will probably miss more games next year as his body continues wearing down and we are close to the cap (as always). Why not offer him a perfomance related bonus?

We donŽt need his offense that much. We need defense and more defense...... And Salary space..... Not selling merchandise and a few more goals....

$3m and I'm on board. Anything more, and I'll be a little weary of bringing him back.

Even if he's not putting points up, he's so good at wearing down the opposing D with his puck possession game.

Where was his skill against the ****ing horrible devils.... even Kovalchuk was a shelf of himself in the whole playoffs. But he outplayed Jagr in a huge way. Also Henrique outplayed Jagr....

Guys accept it, he is too old for a cup run and we donŽt need his offense in the regular season... And in the playoffs his body will suffer another time, so he canŽt keep his game up as in the regular season....

If we get Nash, I definitely don't want Jagr back.

His minutes need to go to other guys and his money should go towards fixing our taped together defense.

If letting Jagr walk opens the door to getting Suter, Nash (I still don't like his cap hit), or any in-his-prime allstar calibre player, I'm all in

I just don't like the idea of passing on Jagr just because of his age or just to sign another bandaid 6/7th defenseman like Kubina.

Is Jagr really the person that should be singled out for the Devils loss? I get some people want him gone - but how many Flyers looked good Vs New Jersey?

3.3/1yr for a high leadership veteran who can put up 50 is not a bad deal.
He could end up being healthy next post season, there is no certainty either way.
And jagr at least half tries on D, which is way more than Briere...

I don't want him gone because of the Devils series.

I want him gone because he's 40+ and his 3 million could go towards areas of actual need. Jagr was fun to watch and a very pleasant surprise, but I don't want him getting minutes of our younger guys that needs to get the minutes in order to move along in their development.

If we don't have plans to add any additional forwards, then by all means keep Jagr because he is a solid stop gap until next off season or a trade comes along. However, if we make the push for Nash then I would not consider putting pen to paper with Jagr until Nash is for sure not coming.

What do you feel is better for the development of younger players.

Jagr being on the team, doing his crazy ass training in the middle of the night, while also being a top 10 player of all time.

Not having Jagr and allowing players a little more ice time to further along their development.

Honest question.

The players feel that Jagr's presence had a big impact on their development, not stunted it.

ice time =/= development

(its an HFBoards myth, born from statistics)

I would love to have him back, just for this^^^ alone, helping develop the younger players the way maybe a handful of veterans can in this leauge, not only is Jagr at vet, he's in an elite grouping and the shared experience alone will go along way with any player

Jaromir Jagr enjoyed Phildadelphia, but plans on testing free agency. Also plans to change training to shed some lbs and get faster.
It was fun while it lasted, but looks like he is leaving.

Again, same as in the off-season thread, I think that's premature.

He's never, to my knowledge, given a team a hometown discount. I bet his camp offers the Flyers the opportunity to match the best offer on the table.

Well to me, the facts are that the guy gave you 54 points and was 3rd on the team in scoring. That, to me, would be worth signing him again at 1 year to a similar contract (I would expect he would get a little less than last year).

Granted the points are probably as high as they are because of Giroux, but I think we could still use Jagr in a lesser role on the 3rd or 4th line, and use him basically as a PP specialist. Whether or not he wants to take that reduced role or thinks that he still deserves top line minutes, we don't really know. I'm assuming he still thinks he has the chops to play on a scoring line for a contending team, in which case I would let him test the waters and see if anyone will give that to him.

I mean, he can't be worse than dressing Shelley, and isn't that all we are about at this point? Although 3M should be enough to sign a decent depth winger, the pickings are slim this offseason, and Jagr's locker room presence I think adds a lot to this team.

I hope the Flyers use that 3.3M to bolster our 4th line defensively. Guys like Moen/Winnik and McClement would look tremendous alongside Talbot.

Agreed. Take some of his money and get in 1-2 guys that can play shut down D against top lines. It will allow someone like Read to be on the top 3 lines as well.
Or try and go after Doan for Jagr's $.

would love Doan on this team, I don't think he leaves Phoenix though.
