it's not happening, the Flames can ill afford to move their only shutdown defenseman, Bouwmeester is as important to the Flames defensive game as Iginla is to their offensive game.
Much as I dislike JBo, we can't move him without bringing in someone else who can play 23-25 minutes a night. We really only have 2 top 4 defenseman at the moment. I'd love to move him if we could sign Suter, but I know we can't. Giordano and JBo should not be traded unless we're rebuilding or bring in at least 1 more top 4 guy.
Literally the only way I would trade for JBo was if Gomez was going the other (which obviously wont happen). Do not want that contract.
The difference is JBo is still an average top pairing defenseman. Gomez is barely a third line center. One is a quality player on a bad contract, the other is a bad player on a bad contract. I wouldn't even think of moving him for Gomez. Even if you sent picks or prospects back.

Isn't that was the poster said though? That the Flames obviously wouldn't take Gomez' contract and that JBo's isn't a good contract (by your own admission).

He acknowledged that we wouldn't take the deal, but still equated JBo's value as so poor that the only thing they would trade for him is the most negatively valued player in the entire league. JBo is more like Cammaleri than Gomez. Good player, overpaid though. So IMO the trade (if we were looking to move him) would look like the Cammaleri deal. Some salary in the form of a reclamation project, a decent prospect and a 2nd.

If Bouwmeester is dealt it will be part of a deal for a top 6 centerman. That is the only way it makes any sense for Calgary.
I wonder what J-Bo would cost Philly? Maybe something involving JVR and the rights to Carle?
I don't think even flames fans can gauge this. It's a really hard one to figure out. On one hand his cap hit is probably 2.5 to high for what he does on the ice. But on the other, he is still a top pairing dman on most teams and plays big minutes.
Regardless, this makes no sense for CGY. Unless they are planning on making out like bandits with FA top-4 dmen this year. This isn't a testament to how good Jaybo is, simply that our backend is AHL material without him. The fact that he never gets injured benefits our weak blueline tremendously.

Lol. I would too. The trade has to work for the other side as well. I immensely dislike the style of player JBo is. He's worth what we gave up for Cammaleri. That's why we shouldn't trade him unless we have a better option.

The Caps need two players out of those 1st round picks. I'd be willing to move the 16th in a deal, but not both. It'd have to be a roster asset, given Calgary's apparent needs.
I'm not sure on his open market value, but I know his value to the Flames. It'd be really stupid to trade him just for the sake of getting him off the team. That doesn't make sense. He's overpaid, yes, but he's a very good player.
I'd hope that if Bouwmeester's value to other teams really is as bad is some say, he's just retained. No point in trading him for a lesser player on another bad contract.
