Least you could do is give him credit and reopen his thread.

I guess there's gonna be a lot of emotions on that bench

I also had my doubts about this nomination but after reading this, I felt slightly better:

According to Mathias Brunet (La Presse - one of the best hockey prospects main stream media analysts imo... though Gauthier was Satan according to him... and Whitesnake!), Mike Yeo (Minnesota Wild) is a rising star among the NHL head coaches – Fel... do you agree with this analysis? - . Here is what Yeo had to say about Therrien:

I don't know where people get that Therrien is a not a good tactical coach. Showing emotion on the bench doesn't automatically mean that you don't know strategy.

Man with Bergevin, Gallant, Lapointe, Dudley, Carriere, Mellanby and even Therrien who fought a little in the QMJHL I think we are finally gonna have some toughness on this team.

Maybe none of them wants to be an assistant coach ???

Groulx is kingpin in Gatineau and Houle is just starting a new franchise in Boisbriand.

why are these 2 guys not considered good X-O coaches? I have read that much of the Penguins defensive system was built by Therrien, before Bylsma took over. To be honest, I don't know much about Gallant's system, but he has done well in junior (whatever that is worth).

The knock on gallant is that he was gifted power house teams, and even then they still managed to underwhelm in certain instances, as recently as this year's memorial cup.

They won last year. Didn't they ?

Just look at the St-John's stats in the last 3 seasons. It's not that easy coaching star players. Ask Scotty Bowman.

The guy was assistant and head coach at NHL level. No doubt about his experience.

Another friend of Bergevin. They played together in TB.

Here is what Yeo had to say about Therrien:

http://www.lapresse.ca/sports/hockey...7_accueil_POS2

Google translate:

http://translate.google.ca/translate...l_POS2&act=url
"... He transformed the Penguins organisation. Before him they had no structure and the organisational culture was weak. In terms of pedagogy and tactical analysis, Therrien is vastly underrated. Motivation? Most people are aware of his motivational skills. The only thing that surprises me about this nomination is that it took so long before he received another opportunity.

The guy is tough but, as his assistant, I was the players' voice so I can tell you that he takes good care of his players and the vast majority of them highly respect him
..." - Mike Yeo, head coach, Minnesota Wild

Then, Brunet adds that Crosby was among the players who congratulated Therrien.

Ref.: http://www.lapresse.ca/sports/hockey...7_accueil_POS2

I quoted myself because I thought it would add to the Therrien nomination debate. For the record: I was(still am) not a big fan. That being written, Yeo did speak loudly in his favour.

EDIT:

According to Yeo, Therrien is a good (Xs and Os) technical coach.

Some of you were worried about Therrien dealing with the young players (for whatever reason). Now you can breathe a sigh of relief with Gallant in the fold.

I'm not convinced he can be a good NHL coach. I would've preferred Groulx. Maybe we can have Groulx assist in Hamilton?

Houle & Groulx may be better coaches but maybe Therrien figured that Gallant's talents and character better complement his own.

He was a Head Coach for almost 3 years with CBS.

I'm sure he wants to be a pro coach at some point. Rochester was a bad experience. It's time to bring him in as a coach "prospect."

Yes would of been me and another poster. I wouldn't of posted it and tweeted it if it was total BS.

Nice work. I had a feeling something was up when I saw the Sea Dogs bus in front of the Bell Centre this morning.
