Haters are people who keep claiming that he was some sort of bad influence in the locker room without a shred of evidence. As far as I know, no player ever came out to confirm that. Koivu was asked the question directly.

He seemed to conduct himself well off-ice and was involved with the community. The main objection to him as a player was that he took some shifts off. However, he stepped it up in the playoffs. Usually was a Bruins-killer.

I've been watching the Habs since the early 80's and I don't remember a player so emotionally attached to the city and the Habs after leaving for another team. Heck, he was even talking about playing again for the Habs right after signing a contract with the Sens. Under similar circumstances, some players take the opportunity to unload. You have to respect him for having nothing but good things to say and wanting to join a team that finished 15th.

Once again, we're only talking about an invite to a camp.

I was about to post a big NO NO NO message but then I mellowed and now I'm more open to the possibility.

As long as it's cheap (say 1.5-2M), and short (one, maybe two years max) and Kovalev completely grok that he's only going to be used on the third line and in special teams, I'm ok with it. The UFA landscape is so barren, and our forward needs so important, that I'm open to this short term solution.

He was terrible with the Sens/Pens 2 years ago and only had 6 pts in 22 games in the KHL last year. If Kovalev doesn`t produce offensively then he`s pretty much useless.

A big no from me

Didn't he get bought out from the KHL? I'm pretty sure he's done.

Maybe two years? Really? I really have to ask what it is you used to 'mellow' out that much.

The "lazy" thing is such a matter of perception. There are about 20 or less elite players in the league that make something happen every single game. Think Malkin, Crosby, Giroux, Sedins, Stamkos, etc... The rest are pretty much floating to varying degrees. That's what separates the true elite from the very good players.

Pacioretty goes completely invisible for 10 games but somehow he's a dedicated young man. People are drooling over Getzlaf and his 11 goals. Once a person is labeled, it's hard to shake that reputation.

If he is perfectly used he could be useful. Less ego, more dedication on defense, third line and PP, and I'd be okay with it.

Habs are happy to announce the hiring of Alexei Kovalev as the new Assistant Floating Coach.

Another thing to keep in mind: in a year where Gainey parted with more than half the team, he did however extend a contract offer to Kovalev. Why would Gainey completely ignore his captain but extend a 2-yr offer to a so-called "cancer"?

If we're going to blame Kovalev for something, it should be because he could have altered the future had he signed that contract. My guess is that things would have unfolded quite differently and we could have averted that disaster of a rebuild.

Honestly, Kovalev and Therrien would not be a terrific mix. Just imagine Kovy taking one of his 2 min. shifts ?

Give him an invite, see what shape he's in. I don't get how someone can have a problem with no-risk invites. If he's done ok, if he's not perfect. We were terrible at shootouts last year and people **** on the guy that would've made us win a few more?

So is Laraque. Doesn't mean the Habs should do it though. Next question...

1.5 million a year maximum, 10 minutes a game at most, put him on the PP and on shootouts, our two biggest weaknesses last year.

All year it showed on TVA Sports at 10 to 11 then it showed on regular TVA at 12 but ever since the playoffs have ended, there's no replay anymore.

Give him Gomez's cheque if he agrees to grow out his hair again and play without a helmet...
