And ifWhy would one take glee over such a meaningless thing as an incorrect guess about standings in a sports league?
Oh believe me Trots, I take glee in any unsuccessful NYR season (read: very many) and I sooooooooooo want to be proven wrong on my nightmare prediction of NYR success.

You should have been here on that wild Saturday night in Montreal 2 or 3 seasons hre where Hank & the NYR squandered a 5-0 lead and they ended up losing the game in OT.

That was the 07-08 season. Koivu scored the winning SO goal.

Ow. My pride.
It was pure pandemonium around here. I think that was the first night that the tradtion of getting everybody ice cream on a Saturday night on a combination of a simulataneous NJD win/NYR loss. We sure got fat, but lost it all last season when that combo only happened like once.
Trotts, I like your predictions as a whole, although there's a few teams I disagree with. I'm not going to touch your opinions on the West because I'm nowhere near as familiar with them as the East, although I do think this is the year that the Kings finally prove to be elite.
This is exactly what I had in September, and I sent an email to myself with this lineup right here in September.

There have been times I went back, and recanted throughout the season, but that was my preseason outlook. Got more right in the West than I did East. Ottawa, and Florida in the playoffs, and Tampa Bay, and Montreal turned out to be out from what I predicted in the East. In the West St Louis, and Phoenix in, and Anaheim and Dallas out. I'll never predict Dallas in the top 8 again until I see it. They finish 9th-10th every year.
Trottier's prediction about the Devils is eerie looking back at it. "If they get in, watch out."
Yup, he only picked us one spot down from where we landed. And although he stated the Kings would finish 1st...had a good argument for why they could win.
It's funny how half the teams in the East that made the playoffs last year did not this year. Well almost half.
Montreal, Tampa Bay, and Buffalo all made it last year.
Ottawa, Florida, and the Devils all made it this year, and didn't last year.
In the West just swap out Anaheim for St Louis, and all the teams that made it this year made it last year.
Buffalo went through there tanking period which has happened the last few years. This time it went on a lot longer, and they couldn't recover this time unlike the year before. Can't help but point out Ryan Miller played horrendous, and died for two months just as he did the season before. I don't trust that guy worth a ****.
Tampa Bay it was easy to scapegoat Roloson. He absolutely sucked early in the year, but their D was the worst in the league. Completely awful how they get pinned in their own zone.
Montreal all the way to last in the Conference. Gionta's injury didn't help there. Gomez handcuffing contract either. The French speaking controversy with Cunneyworth played a part I think as they were 500 when he took over, and then played horribly. Wouldn't be surprised if he ran the team into the ground on purpose for them vilifying him.
Anaheim don't know what happened there. They looked to be making a Jacques Lemaire Devils like comeback with Boudreau there for a while, but ultimately floated around the last month, and a half of the season.
The Rangers have a very good team but I don't think they're a great team at all. They're probably going to finish higher than us and make the playoffs handily, but.......I don't know, I look at their roster and nothing jumps out at me saying "wow these guys are gonna be great this year!" And Tortorella better deliver because if they struggle at any point this season I think he'll be the first one to go.
They never really struggled though. I bet he's on the hot seat going into next year. Even though they got to the ECF, I just feel like he's losing his players.
Honestly don't remember if I put down predictions for anyone/anything on here. Was sad to look bad and see I hadn't posted. I don't know how much I would have been right on - if anything - but its fun to look back and see. All I can remember is that I had said (somewhere or to someone) that I had the Devils in the 5-7 seed range. Past that, I was probably going to be way off on a lot.

There`s another season predictions thread somewhere in the anals of this board.
I don't really post predictions but I'm pretty sure I had both us and the Rangers in the 6-7 range with Buffalo high. Like most I bought the preseason hype for them. Iirc I would have picked Washington a sure one, Pittsburgh two, Boston three, Buffalo-Philly 4-5, then maybe Tampa/Devils/Rangers in that grouping.
Didn't think much of Florida or Ottawa at all, or even the Rangers for that matter - until they went on their insane Around the World trip and somehow got out of it .500. I was wary of them quicker than most.

Knowing me, I probably didn't post in one there either. I had sworn I had made a prediction for the Devils. I really don't think I would have ranked the Western Conference. Maybe did the East. And I am far too lazy to search for something that will prove how delusional I was 9 months ago. Probably for the best its buried deep down there somewhere.
