Fistric

I was wondering what it would take for Calgary to get this guy. I think he would bring a great physical presence needed on our back end. Also am I over my head to think this guy can play in a #4 role, or is he more suited for a #5-6?

I believe he can become a #4 type defenseman. Right now though he's more suited to the 5-6 role until he shows he can play against tougher competition. I'm a huge Fistric fan personally and would hate for the Stars to trade him, but I certainly accept that it's a possibility. His brand of aggressive physicality is one that's in short supply these days around the league.

Do you have a good defensive C, who can play a checking, 3rd line role? GMJN has been clear about wanting NHL help in exchange for players. Other than that, I would like an NHL ready prospect, or your 2nd.

There's really no one on Calgary I'm interested in, at least not major pieces.

Thanks for the input, I guess he is pretty valuable to your team. I don't think Calgary could afford to give away any picks though for him. I know someone mentioned a defensive C to play the 3rd line but I'm not even going to mention the player that came to mind. (cough Stjan cough cough). Backlund is definitely a big no. Only way he is traded if were getting a legit number 1 center back.

I, as opposed to everyone else here, would move Fistric for Stajan.

Better than Ribeiro and Benn. Not as good as Ott, but he's definitely above 50%. And against not that bad competition.

I wouldn't mind moving out Fistric because I think we have some exciting new talent coming up the pipeline that needs some space to advance, but because he brings some tools that are really sought after around the league there would have to be another solid young NHL'er coming back the other way.

This trade actually kind of makes sense, guys from Edmonton and the surrounding areas always seem to end up playing for the Flames

Fistric for Stajan? Yeah, that's a done deal. Fistric is a bottom guy so anything you can get for him is gravy.

Calgary wouldn't be this foolish unless they were hard up to shed salary.

Yeah Stajan... because this team doesn't already have enough scapegoats.

I don't mind Stajan, but all I'm willing to pay is a bag of pucks. His face-off % is fine, but his 3.5 mil. cap hit for two more seasons sucks.

DAL: Stajan (3.5)/2 yrs.
CAL: cap space + future considerations OR Adam Pardy (2.0)/1 year

How the heck did Stajan get a NTC?

A #6 defensive defender is basically a bag of pucks in trade terms.

We can romanticism Fistric all we like due to his size and hitting, but he's not exactly the type of trade chip that's going to bring back much of anything. Grossmann, a much more mobile and established Fistric, only returned a 2nd and 3rd. That puts Fistric into bag o' pucks territory when you start talking about 3rd round picks and later.

With cap space to burn, Stajan wouldn't hurt the cap at all. His contract doesn't really factor unless you think the Stars will find a way to spend to $65 million + in the next two years.

Not saying I'm in love with the deal, I'm not a huge Stajan fan, but I'd be shocked if you got somebody of Stajan's level for Fistric alone unless Calgary was just hurting to move salary. The value is really good for Fistric, but I'm not sure it's a trade the Stars make regardless.
