They got the first second rounder, we will only have four if Florida gives us the second this year(if not then we get it next year). So at the moment we only have three second-rounders.

I think he meant he would choose one of the goalies over the Matia Marcantoni pick.

I love the seemingly random order of our top 10 prospects.

Well I dont see us drafting a goalie with any of our top 4 picks at this point. We now have 3 young guns at slightly different stages of development.

I could see grabbing one later on if theres a solid choice.

Obviously it depends on what falls to us at each slot, but the first pick has to be the best available defenseman. Then the 19th you pick BPA, and hopefully one of the other top 6 or 7 dmen fall to that slot somehow haha. Would love to pick up two potential top 4 dmen with the first two picks.

True now that I think of it and especially after the Lindback trade I'm thinking it's possible to grab Marcantuoni latter in the draft. So either Matheson or Sieloff would make me happy. Wouldn't be upset with Dansk or Vasilevski either. But I'm thinking Vasilevski would be gone by then through. But with that said I'd much rather not pick up a goalie with our seconds or first after this trade. If Murray could fall to us in the 3rd Id be very happy as well.

Here is my top 10 draft eligible players in order, if I were Yzerman I would take the top player left on this list when he walks onto the stage announce the 10th overall draft choice.

1. Yakupov
2. Murray
3. Dumba
4. Forsberg
5. Galchenyuk
6. Trouba
7. Rielly
8. Reinhart
9. Ceci
10. Teravainen

I am hoping with the 19th pick we will be able to land Gaunce or Maatta.

What are your thoughts on all of the above?

Thanks

That's the order I would put the defensemen in. I would go D with both picks so Reinhart/Rielly and Maatta/Finn/Pouliot would be ideal.

Kinda funny seeing Galchenyuk falling. A lot of teams will kick themselves if they pass on him.

If Steve Yzerman trades one of his two first-round draft picks, it likely will be the 19th overall rather than No. 10.

Actually, the Lightning general manager said, "I think it's more likely we use both picks," but especially the 10th:

"I don't see us moving that."
Quote:
"It would really be hard to get into the top two or three," he said. "I don't know if (trading picks) 10 and 19 would get you that."

Besides, he added, "Sitting where we are there are a lot of players that we like."

TSN's top-30 mock draft with Pierre McGuire and Craig Button: http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip703586#clip703586

They have us pick Olli Maatta ("probably the most NHL ready defenseman right now").

What strategy do you guys like, taking BPA or drafting for need? Isn't Yzerman's strategy to take BPA?

I hope it's either trade the pick(s) or pick BPA and trade for need afterwards but not draft for need.

BPA because needs can change and, unless you're picking in the top 5, the player likely won't be ready to step in until 3-4 years down the road. Only case to draft for need is if two players at the top of the board are relatively even and one position in the organization isn't as deep as the other.

It seems with the 10 BPA will fill a need also, the 19 BPA. My question is how do you rate the D?

IMO, BPA no matter what for at least the first couple of rounds.

If you have any position issues in the prospect pool/AHL you can address those with positional picks in the later rounds.

If you have any position issues in the NHL you should prob fill those via trade/UFA.

With the 10th pick no matter if it's a forward or a dman, we will get a heck of a prospect.

Personally I'd love to add a top dman to our prospect pool, but even picking BPA, odds are one of our 3 (or 4) picks in the top 60 will fill a need so I'm not too worried. The fact that this draft has soo many good defensemen in the 1st and 2nd rounds help too.

Lightning GM Yzerman said he spoke to Fla GM Tallon about No. 53 draft pick. Said Tallon still "unsure" if he will turn it over to Tampa.
I'm not sure, but does Florida have up until the selection to say if they plan to keep the pick or not?
