Niitty ponders retirement

http://www.mtv3.fi/urheilu/jaakiekko...i-lopettamista

Niitty talks about being sick and tired of his constant hip injuries and the long rehabs:

Quote:
I'm not feeling like I'm in a hurry to go play somewhere. I haven't made the final decision with my career. I'm going to enjoy the summer now and make decisions later.
Quote:
[ Talks about some finnish hockey "tournament" that takes place at the end of July ]: I'll probably know by then what happens.
Quote:
[ About getting his hip fixed only to lose the other one ]: I was frustrated mentally at March (actual translation means that his head was "stuck", but I'm guessing he meant that). I've had better 18 month long periods in my life than this.
Poor Niitty.

There's this legendary coach with TPS who has trained many (usually finnish) goalies that have made the NHL. But I don't see him (the coach I mean) retiring just yet, and IMO Kipper is a better candidate for that job since he already owns a part of the team.

Full story was on sports news an hour ago, it seems that there was a big difference between the two sides last summer. Sharks wanted him to do pilates or something, and Niitty wanted a full artificial hip surgery.

He said it really nicely though, like that there's no grudge or anything towards the team. He seemed oddly cheerful in the whole interview too.

That would have ended his career...

I might have worded it a bit poorly, but didn't he receive like artificial parts or something in the surgery?

Anyway, the point was that Niitty wanted that surgery and the team initially didn't.

Thank god he did though, or we'd have really been hosed.

could have always traded to get Nabokov back

Have to admit, while I don't in any way shape or form blame Niemi for the Shark's struggles, I definitely don't really like him or consider him an elite goalie...if we are going to have shaky goaltending I'd at least prefer someone young who has a chance to develop more...maybe Lindback?

or brodeur of course....hahaha
