"We've certainly listened to people," Howson told Sportsnet 960 The Fan on Thursday. "We've had a couple of expressions of interest on the pick in terms of moving down. We wouldn't want to move too far down so we'll just see how it plays out next week. Traditionally, and if history repeats itself, teams get a little more serious about exchanging picks as we get closer to the draft on the draft floor."
Sounds like he is seriously considering moving down. Pretty good strategy to stockpile prospects.
When you have trouble developing prospects, the more you can get, the better. This is one of the best years to move down since the talent between 2-6 really isn't all that different.

And likewise - because the difference between 2-6 is small - you're unlikely to get a real significant "sweetner" to drop.
In most cases - if there is a big drop off teams between tiers of talent, teams are unwilling to move down.

Why would Montreal or the NYI trade up,when sitting tight at #3 will likely land Montreal it's choice of Grigs or Galchenyuk?
The isles, who would love to see Murray at #4,have a good chance at seeing him sitting there after the Oilers take Nail at #1,CBJs take Forsberg and the Habs land their potentially elite center at #3?
I guess Columbus could flip first rounders with Toronto, hoping Toronto looks for one of the top center prospects at #2.
If EDM takes Murray - word is Yakupov is top with a big drop off.
If Edmonton take Murray, then we are seeing the rumors are accurate, that some scouts do not see a huge drop off in talent between Nail and the other top youngsters.

If we do trade up to #2, All signs point to Galchenyuk.
The "american" factor and the we'd probaley have to jump over Montreal to get him, Which would be fun.
Howson would be silly not to consider moving down. If Yakupov is on the board and he's not who the Jackets want to take, his phone will be blowing up. I could see Howson get some quality return for that pick. He could pick up some goaltending help plus picks and then be able to get quality assets for Nash. It would be a decent strategy.

I disagree. Even if there's a second tier of three or four players, each one of those teams is likely to covet someone and not want to risk being stuck with a guy they don't want. The fact that Columbus hasn't tipped their hand about who the pick will be seems to indicate that someone might get skittish and feel compelled to make a deal.
I don't think Carolina would move Skinner straight up for Nash, so I can't see them adding a top-10 pick.
I think he meant Nash and 2nd overall for Skinner and 8th overall. If not, then the value is way off. If what I'm suggesting is what he meant, I can't see Columbus doing this.
Team 1260 in Edmonton has hinted that the rumored trade partner may be Carolina. 2nd for 8th + ??????. Or maybe Nash for 8th + ?????
Interesting, there's speculation within the Caps organization as well (John Walton, the radio play-by-play guy, posted about it on his Twitter) that Carolina could be closing in on a deal for Nash. Wonder if he's getting his information from the same place.
