Was Thomas trying to tackle Saku?

After the goal that Koivu scored, Tim Thomas looked for a second there like he was trying to drag him down to the ice. Did he simply lose his balance or was this really a kind of retaliation attempt that never got anywhere because Saku went for the post-goal group hug instead? It was hard to tell. If it was an attempted tackle, it looked pretty damn funny.

At first I thought it was and I even screamed "Oh **** off Thomas" at my TV, then on replays it looked like he lost his balance.

He wasn't trying to take Koivu down. Just lost his balance slightly. Koivu didn't seem to mind as the celebration began with his teammates jumping all over him.

Yeah I couldn't tell on that either, it kind of looked like he tried to give him a good blocker shot but he might have just slipped, up to interpretation I'd say. I'd lean towards the blocker shot only because of how angry he was getting after every goal, seemed like he just snapped for a second then realized what he was doing or something.

Thomas played in Finland for 3 years that is how a goalie says thank you for scoring on me there.

Ahhhhh... I'm learning so much about the Finns. After Koivu's overtime winner against the Caps last week, I learned that the way you celebrate an OT goal with your teammate is deking them out when they try to hug you so they go flying into the boards.

After Koivu scored the goal he hit thomas after the puck was in, thomas took exception and went after Koivu. I watched the replay a couple of times I can't see Thomas losing his balance, he tries to jump Koivu, but he gets away.

True, did you see Thomas keep looking back at the ref once Koivu escaped? He was probably either scared to go further or he wanted a call on Koivu

Yeah that looked really awkward and funny.

He looked reallly pissed and had his arm half way around Koivu but then suddenly just gave up.

I'm sure it was intentional. Koivu made minor contact with Thomas after putting the puck upstairs, and Thomas seemed to have a FLARING temper all period long anyway.

He's certainly no cool, calm, and collected Huet. (not that there is necessarily something wrong with having a short fuse)

Oh, and beautiful goal by Koivu, by the way.
