Quintal fought often to defend the team, but he got the worst of it more often than not. Souray just about never loses.

Pretty much. Quintal fought because there was noone else to do it, not because he was good at it.

While I thoroughly enjoy Souray's fighting, and I think he's a quality fighter, I think he's getting a bit more hype than deserves. He's not exactly fighting heavyweights.

In any event, I don't think Quintal's a valid comparison. For one, Quintal wasn't much of a fighter: he'd tend to wrestle/hang-on more than fight.

Secondly, the guy didn't have much of a mean streak at all. I don't think he was all that physically imposing. He didn't play big, didn't play mean, didn't make the Habs any stronger physically. A guy like Rivet does more to intimidate and add sand-paper to the team than Quintal ever did.

So, while I think Souray's getting the hype-machine working in his favour right now, Quintal doesn't compare. Souray all the way here.

Oh, I meant to mention: while Quintal did nothing to actually help Montreal in the size/strength/physicality department, he would occasionally drop the gloves and take a beating when the team was being intimidated. Of course, this didn't help the team not be intimidated, but it gave them a 5-minute break from intimidation at least.

I'm sure everyone remembers the night Worrell and the Panthers were in town, and Worrell decided to run around acting like he owned the place. Quintal eventually stepped up to take a beating and everyone cheered.

Thankfully those days are over.

Honestly I would prefer Souray didn't fight. The risk of injury and him being in the box for a while isn't worth it IMO. He's too important to this team.

That is an impressive fight card. Too bad he was hugging his opponent through most of them.

Quintal hands down. Souray may look good in fights with punks like Malone or Alberts but Quintal consistently fiought top notch heavies like Probert, Grimson and Worrell. That being said I think Souray could do well as a goon if he fought more and didn't have the skills to be an important player to the team.

Quintal won almost all his fights if I recall. Souray is good but Quintal was great as a fighter

Quintal was a really nice guy. The whole team liked him. He fought to defend his team.

Didn't Lindros bust Quintal's nose up once, or was that somebody else? I still thought he won alot of his fights but my memory of him is fleeting a bit now.

That fight against Sawyer when he dislocated his finger was amazing I was at that game and Quintal almost made Sawyer puke when he saw the finger.
