But Clemmensen, 26, didn't get his hopes up when Martin Brodeur was struck in the ribs Tuesday night at the Staples Center by a shot from Luc Robitaille of the Kings at 8:07 of the second period of the Devils' 4-0 victory. Brodeur was in obvious pain for a few minutes and admitted after the game that his ribs were hurting "a little bit."
"I never thought about (going in)," Clemmensen said. "The guy doesn't wear a chest protector. He wears a sweater and he gets hit all the time."
Brodeur plays with a thin, out-of-date chest protector that allows him to move more freely than the bulky ones used by most NHL goalies.
