Interesting, Andy Strickland just tweeted

Quote:
Told Sheldon Souray has rejected a one year offer believed to be worth $3 million from the Dallas #stars
Does Souray actually think he's going to make more than that? I suppose on a weak market, it's possible. But, really?!

Damn, I was going to make a thread about it.

Anyways, that sounds weird to me.

He probably wants a 2nd year after bouncing around so much lately.

You can still make a thread if you want, I wasn't sure it would generate enough discussion to merit one, but go for it if you think it will.

The LA Kings have their first post-Cup moves signing forward Rich Clune and Marc-Andre Cliche to 2-year contracts. Both played for Manchester of the AHL this past season. Clune was scheduled to become a RFA this summer, while Cliche was scheduled to become an UFA.

The NY Islanders have signed Jesse Joensuu to a 1-year deal. Joensuu played this past season for HV71 of the Elitserien this past season. He was a RFA whom the Islanders qualified last year.

Per Capgeek, Colorado has re-signed David Van Der Gulik to a 1-year/2-way $575,000. Van Der Gulik, 29, had 1 goal and 6 points in 25 games with Colorado last season. Van Der Gulik was originally a 7th round pick, 206th overall by the Calgary Flames in 2002. He was scheduled to become an UFA on July 1st.

#Panthers prospect Roman Derlyuk, who spent last year playing for the @FlaPanthers AHL team, signed a two year deal w/Dynamo in the #KHL.

Is that a buyout?

Nope, they put him on termination waivers and released him. Not a buy-out.

Interesting. He was still under contract for next year and he would have been on one-way deal next year. I didn't know team can get rid of contracts this way.

Was this some kind of mutual agreement between team and a player? Otherwise why don't Rangers do this for Redden for example?

I believe it is a mutual agreement thing or a case where the player is breaking/planning to break his contract. For instance, I can remember Pittsburgh wanting to assign John LeClair to the AHL and he didn't want to go and team and LeClair came to a mutual agreement and released him. Another incident from earlier this season was Philadelphia had let Joonas Lehtivuori return to Finland in 2010-11 but were anticipating him returning for Training Camp last year (Even had him listed on their TC roster). When Lehtivuori failed to show up for camp, the Flyers put him on waivers and had his contract terminated.

Yeah that's what I suspect too but quite interesting for Salak to give up $600k like this. Next year he would have been on one-way deal for the first time so he could have gotten lots of money. He must be quite confident on getting a good deal from Europe since he basically gave up the biggest paycheck of his career here.

The Blackhawks also have 47 / 50 players signed for next year, so It might be, one of the reason.

His two-year deal with Chicago was a 1-way both years. 2011-12 (this past season in which he spent entirely in Rockford) was worth $625,000, and 2012-13 (next season in which was just terminated) was worth $600,000.

Ok, I missed that, thanks. Still a lot of money for player like Salak to give up here.
