Yes and when there's low demand (and don't bring up the chart of teams in need of starting goalies, it doesn't apply to Luongo who has a NTC and an expensive contract) you can expect the price to be low.

The only other option Canucks can explore is trading Schneider, which IMO is a better move if they want to win the cup next year,

they could but then you have a VERY unhappy backup goalie which would be fine I guess if this were a regular backup but this guy is used to being the #1 guy and thus he could become a cancer if he sits on the bench to long. So unless the cancks want to trade their young up and coming star then yes they do have to trade Luongo

Sources say teammate Justin Schultz is considering three NHL teams with Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton possibilities. Leafs GM Brian Burke drafted Schultz when he was with Anaheim but the offensive D-man has elected not to sign with the Ducks. Schultz scored 34 goals the last two seasons with the Badgers.

Leaf's blue line is crowded, and they aren't picked to be a contender next year. Can't see that being too appealing. I honestly think it's down to the Oilers and Canucks. Does he want a competitive home town team to win now? (Canucks) Or a team to play a big role on that is building for the future? (Oilers) Honestly, either seems attractive.

Sucks for the ducks and their fans either way.

Toronto has a fantastic record of landing college FA's, one of Schultz's best friends he has publicly expressed an interest in playing with in the future and we can trade D to make room for him.

So you think he would go to the Oilers to play a big role on a team that is building for the future? Then why not Toronto where the same would be true. Yes, Toronto has other D-men right now but A) some of those could easily be traded and B) his college teammate plays for Toronto.

Other than Selanne and Karyia signing in Colorado in 2004 I have never heard of the whole 'friend factor' playing out.

Brad Richards signing with his friend and former coach this last off season?

Gretz signing with Mess in NY.

Just off the top of my head.

Just from my team's persepctive within the last 8 years:

Forsberg was supposed to sign here because of Naslund

Gaborik was supposed to sign here because of Demitra

Kayria was supposed to sign here because of his brother

just off the top of my head. There are other connections that strech to family/management, but I'm sticking to roster players.

I really do not think playing with a buddy is a deciding factor for a nhl player starting his career. Flipping burgers yea I could see it . I think Schultz is putting oppurtunity and probably from his agents advice a oppurtunity where he could benifit the best for his second contract. Playing with a proven pp like the Canucks would do this or the Oilers with their up and comming team if he is split between the two I say he will go with Canucks as it was his favorite team growing up and is close to his home town.

I'm not trying to be rude, but his college teammate also plays for Detroit and his college teammate also plays for Nashville (who he is very good friends with, from what I hear) and his college teammates also play for New York (one of who he is very good friends with, from what I hear).

I think he can talk to teams after the 22nd but can't sign till the 1st of june. Basically all info points to him having made his mind up of which team he is going to, its just a matter of waiting to be legally be avalible.
