Obviously it would mean dumping Ballard.

It's a very competitive package.

Young, very big C potential oozing from him.

A 4-5 Dman to replace Ballard.

One impact player. Either a forward or DMan.

hes easily a top 4, played on the shutdown line and made phaneuf look good when he was flagging near the end. Not a guy that'll put up 40+ points but hes quiet and efficient. Plus his cap hit is 1 mil, playing top2 minutes.

Its not that you would want to turn Toronto into a playoff team, but we would be taking his contract off your hands (lets say for picks/prospects) that you could spend elsewhere to improve your team, while your goaltending would still be elite

I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about Gunnarson. Ballard has got something of an overly-maligned reputation thanks to his very public struggles in Vancouver though. I have a sad feeling we're going to jettison him for scraps, and he'll go on to play to his potential elsewhere and make us look like idiots.

Schneider is due a big raise...the cap savings will be minimal. Maybe we could sign another Andrew Alberts type player...doesn't make us better at all.

Gunnarsson is very close to Alexander Edler in value.

How is Gunnarson easily top 4? Who does he displace? Edler and Hamhuis are both very much better than him. We simply have no room for him.

One is a 20 point defenseman, the other is a 50 point defenseman. Edler is better than Gunnarsson and it isn't even close.

I stand by my point, acquiring Gunnarsson for Luongo is a pathetic move for the Canucks as it doesn't address any of our needs.

I hope you mean in terms of value to the team he plays on.(in which case Hamuis is a better comparison)
But otherwise:

Bieksa must be worth Karlsson if that's the case.

What makes him a worthwhile upgrade on Keith Ballard that we should trade a top 5 NHL goalie for him?

We aren't going to waste our time in this thread not discussing luongo. Keep it on track or you will be removed from the discussion.

Luongo + Grenier(Van prospect that's 6'5) for Schenn+Kulimen+2013 1st conditional on playoffs.

I assure you they're not.

I'll wait for you "Well, then, you're not getting Luongo."

So there we go. We agree.

Good god, why don't you just keep the top 5 goalie then.

Does not address Vancouver's needs. Pointless to destroy our opportunity to trade away one of our two elite goalies for scraps without addressing our team needs.

I have no problem if we keep Luongo and trade Schneider for something that addresses our needs. On the flip side, the Leafs should be worried about being stuck with no goalie going into the season yet again.

who the hell is your forth defensemen anyways? all i hear is how salo, ballard and gragnani are terrible. i'm pretty sure gunnars is better than salo and grangs as well.

Very close to Edler and Karlsson.

The question is, would the Sens move Karlsson for Gunnarsson?
