It's funny, they're actually in a position to sign both because they didn't listen to what a lot of Avs fans wanted over the years and that was to spend, spend, spend when the team wasn't ready to contend.

Sign Hamhuis! Sign Martin! Sign Michalek!! And stuff like BOOOOO!!! This team is cheap!!! I want this team to sign core players and pay them like key players!!!

They clearly had a plan and executed it beautifully. Even if they get neither, we're still in a GREAT position heading into the future. Unfortunately, there will always be those short-sighted who can't really see the difference.

Doesn't mean too much, just that they might make an offer. Hopefully they do land one of these guys without going overboard.

My personal opinion on that is this, I think either guy would be crazy NOT to come to Colorado. I don't know their specific situations but I'll assume that both guys either have young kids or have some on the way or in the works. There will be a lot of interest from other teams but they get to sign for likely over $7M per year and live in frikkin' Denver Colorado and raise their families??? On top of which, they join an organization that is well known for being first class, have an up-and-coming team that is set to be competitive for the next 10 years unless they hire Mike Milbury as GM and have a front office that has shown in the past that when the window is there, THEY GO FOR IT!!! [Not add Paul Gaustad and Andrei Kostitsyn to an already anemic offense but add guys like Fleury, Blake and Bourque!!!]

That doesn't mean I expect either guy to sign here for sure but I have a hard time believing the Avs aren't close to the top of both of their lists.

"In a position" is very different than actually doing. I will be more than happy to eat my words over the last few year IF they only sign one of the two.

Suter is a better fit in every possible way. He fits team needs better. I think there is a big chance he holds up better than Parise does. A small forward playing that way might start to fade at 30 while Suter should be good until 33-34 at least. Wingers are a luxury and defenders are a necessity.

I would of course go completely crazy if we got Parise. He's one of my favorite players in the league. But my brain says Suter is the one Avs should target, if they had to pick one of them.

Its easier to trade/draft wingers than it is defensemen. I mean the Avs had gotten great production out of Mueller and Flash by trading players that weren't going to be part of the future but gave up considerable assets for EJ.

If we can get Suter I will buy pizza for all the Avs fans on this board that live near Vancouver. Although I can't say the same if we get Parise.

So you and Dmitri are going to go out on a lunch date if we get Suter?

So put your self in their shoes.

You're Suter and Parise where would you sign?

St. Louis.

I doubt too many people are expecting either to sign with the Avalanche. It would be a perfect setup for massive (but not unexpected) disappointment.

Big mistake.

I see the Blues being a team like the Sharks, always good in regular season choke in the playoffs.

BTW, where is this Dater article saying that Avs are going after Suter and Parise? There is nothing on denverpost

If I'm Parise I sign with New Jersey for one more year. I'm hoping I'm wrong and he signs here but the Devils had a great run. If I'm Suter I have no idea and I have to weigh my options but Colorado would look enticing.

I don't see it -- I guess they could still use an improvement at center but frankly with all of the talent they have in the pipeline, I think it's not a weakness that will hold for too long.

Suter + EJ would be sex.

Just for the fact that up to 29 other teams are considering the same thing.

St. Louis has to fix their goaltending. I think this season was an anomaly. Wouldn't be surprised if Suter and Parise stay put.

I don't think so. Regular season when there isn't as much pressure they'll do just as well. It's the playoffs that will be the question mark to see if the tandem will still work, with the majority given to Halak.
