Like I said before, I think we are going to struggle this year due to lack of winger depth.
If we get Gally this year, to be able to add MacKinnon, Shinkaruk, Jones, Barkov or Drouin to that. Add in our 5 second round picks over that span. Our prospect pool will jump from bottom of the league to the top.
By comparison the habs had 35 picks during that time. Not to mention, the LA kings drafted earlier in the 1st round and earlier in general.
It's not to say tanking breeds success. It does not, but as I pointed out in post#2 of this thread. You need to sell when you're down and have proper asset management, something I feel the habs were terrible at over last few years. Hopefully our new management gets it.
That's not even a question that should be asked. The new group of guys (talking about Bergevin, Therrien, etc.) will do everything in their power to show that they can build, coach and manage a team properly.
We might end up at the bottom of the standings if we struggle with injuries again (most notably, if Price misses a big chunk of the season). The roster isn't bad, I think that last season was a bit flukey. With a bit more luck, the Canadiens could have ended up up to 5 positions higher. Which is still not good at all, but we'd be drafting 7th-12th instead of 3rd.
I think that the odds are, we will finish 5th-12th, depending on the roster changes and the draft. But since we don't have that much forward, defense or goalie depth, it wouldn't take much for us to finish near the bottom again, sadly.
I don't wish it, because last season was painful to watch. But in the end, I have to say, I've been enjoying following the 2012 draft. Very excited about June 22nd. I'd much rather win, but I'll enjoy watching/following hockey regardless.
Some of you are seriously underestimating this team - last year was a one-off... we have some pretty good players so I don't think this team can fail as badly as last year.
edit: unless Price gets injured for an extended amount of time
Too many question marks is surrounding this team.
Will Bourque bounce back? what's gonna happen with Gomez? Markov? Kaberle?
What will be done to change the make up of our defense? Who will Eller get as wingers?
Too many unknowns.
I don't think tanking is a good idea, but I know Bergevin said that he felt the proper way of rebuilding is through good drafting and player development. So, I'm not sure what his approach to the summer will be. We don't know if he'll be aggressive on the trade and free agency fronts. But this team needs improvements.
Not on purpose but I sincerely hope that IF were on outside looking in we're sellers and acquire a ton of picks for what is deemed to be a deep draft.
pretty much this. hopefully bergie will not want to go all out burke style to make the PO's

Extra chromosome thinking. Beyond ********.
Well if you so smart, you should be able to understand it has more to do with being sellers at trade dealine and bergie not going burke style and give up picks prior to season start to acquire some high level player because he thinks prior to season start that we are contenders. that would be "beyond" retarted imo
