Terry Murray to Receive Ring; Kings apply to have Murray's Name Placed on Cup

Classy move...

http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/...-from-the-past

Leiweke said members of the Kings organization, including owner Philip Anschutz, have also reached out to Murray, who kept busy scouting potential Eastern Conference playoff opponents for the Kings. He said Murray will be awarded a championship ring and the team is lobbying to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup.

Good move! Without Murray, we would never have gotten Sutter!

good move

We don't win the cup if it wasn't for Murray. He is the reason why all of the Kids are so good defensively, and allowed Sutter to immediately reap the benefits from a team that was exceptional in its own end

It's definitely the right move. The defensive system that the Kings learned with Murray was very helpful. With that in place, Sutter just needed to open things up some more to cover the length of the ice. He deserves his name on the Cup.

Funny to see the TM support on here but he does deserve a ring and his name on the cup. He did make a lasting impression on the team.

I was expecting some of you to be against this but I'm glad you all see what I do.

To me, this just proves how much the players respected Murray. I think we all saw the writing on the wall in December but Terry was instrumental in grooming these young guys into great hockey players.

If not for Terry Murray, this team would still be spinning its wheels. Defense was a foreign concept under Crawford and nothing was being done about improving it.

Just curious but why would they have to appeal if he was still working for franchise?

They could have just listed him with names to go on cup along with rest of scouts

First, excellent move. We need to show the rest of the world how the Kings organization rolls.

Second, I think it would be very good for Terry's career for him to be an assistant coach to Darryl but that would never happen.

Despite the early season fiasco, TM was one half of the equation when it came to coaching the kids. He taught them how to play as a team unit on defense; Sutter taught them to take that to the next level and apply it to their overall game.

I was thinking that he'd be on it as a scout...so I'm not sure if the appeal was really necessary... Still...it's a classy move by the Kings to go forward with the appeal...

I was thinking the same thing, but maybe they want him on the Cup as one of the coaches.

Terry Murray was the right man at the right time. The Kings had a ton of young players that needed to learn how to play in their own zone and not get screamed at everytime they made a mistake. Crawford was not the man for that job.

I'm not sure it's that simple... I think part of the issue is that he was fired mid season and the Kings still owed him money, so they went to him and said "Since we are still paying you would you mind scouting teams for the playoffs for us?"

http://http://kings.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=41374

Notice he isn't listed anywhere on the Staff Directory and I haven't heard anything abut the Kings retaining him past this season. So it may be a case of Murray no longing being a part of the team, but still being a part of the team... If that makes sense. Since he isn't an "official" employee of the team, they have to lobby to get his name on there, the same way they'd have to if they put Bernie Nichols on there.

Interesting to hear that he was still working for the Kings in a much smaller capacity...that must be hard to do...

One of my first jobs when i was like 17 i got fired as a waiter and was told i could stick around as a dishwasher...i got the heck out of there so quick and have boycotted eating there my entire adult life....
