I agree with your post... the whole idea is to bring complementary skill sets together on your staff. I was just pointing out that you referenced a post that was completely irrelevant with your response

If confirmed, I LOVE this signing.

I'm excited about this coaching staff. There are definitely concerns, but I like that Bergevin is trying to balance it out as much as possible and really try to cover all facets of the staff.

Because if it was the case, it could signify that language was made a priority over quality, which is a ******** way to do things in the hockey world.

Saying you'd 'like a mix' is just as bad as saying you'd like any language or ethnicity over another. You're prioritizing language or ethnicity over hockey management skills or coaching ability.

It's kind of like the Habs have suddenly turned into the Quebec Nordiques.

And why is language always a true concern ?

Je suis un Quebecois pure laine, and all i want is a winning team.

From Wikipedia (coaching record)

Season Team Lge Type
2005-06 Phoenix Roadrunners ECHL Assistant Coach
2007-08 Hartford Wolf Pack AHL Assistant Coach

Does anyone know what he's done since?

What will be funny about this hire is when the journalists try to find if there is a link between Bergevin and JJ Daigneault, and discover that they were teammates as children. They played on the same team in Ville Emard with another kid that also made the NHL, some guy named Mario Lemieux.

That should be updated to "2006-11 Hartford Wolf Pack AHL Assistant Coach." That's how long he's had that job.

The opening line on said Wikipedia page read;

Quote:
Jean-Jacques Daigneault (born October 12, 1965 in Montreal, Quebec) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently an assistant coach for the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Too bad that the Kostitsyn's have left the organization.

Knowing their habit of partying and chasing ass, I am sure that they would have benefitted from having THREE (3) ass coaches.

I envy the Canadiens players and what their coaches will teach them.

PS. Sorry man. Just kidding around with you.

No.

Habitue is a very good poster who is not afraid to speak his mind. There are times when I disagree with him but his passion about Canadiens hockey is evident.

Its only a message board. Thick skin does help.

Great move if it happens. Was really the only option if you follow the movement we've had with this organization.

I like this signing. JJ was a very solid dman and he has experience in the coaching ranks. It's good to see more Francos getting these kinds of roles as it gives them experience and also increases the pool of franco replacements when Therrien gets canned (all coaches get canned at some point).
Bingo. You hit the nail on the head. When Martin got canned there was no one to pass the torch to. When Therrien gets canned, either JJ or Jodoin can take over as an intern coach without missing a beat.

IMO it was either Larry Robinson, JJ Daigneault or Alain Nasredinne, all because of experience, past playing position and connections with the Habs and/or Therrien.

Whaaaaaaaat? What if somehow next year, JJ or Jodoin are poached by other teams? Who is going to be left?

Same thing happened with Martin, who had Muller and Boucher waiting in the wings, just waiting for that opportunity.

I think he's suggesting no one else would hire them so we're safe.

Are you sure we are talking about the same JJ Diagneault???

As I remember him, he was often out of position & reminded me alot of Spacek with his D-zone defensive brain farts!!! But that was as a player.

That said, he could be a very good coach none the less.

That's the Daigneault I remember as well. He was Spacek before we had Spacek, only without Spacek's offense.

I don't know much about his coaching abilities, but he was a below average defenseman at best when he played here. That may have nothing to do with his coaching abilities, but I was never a fan when he played.
