It's really not as bad as I'd heard. And I'm in the downtown area, in the supposed ''rough area''.
It's just like any canadian small town except with a few more crack heads, drunks and prostitutes.
Pretty much. Closer to the river is the worst part of downtown, even around the Peter Pond mall isn't great. It gets better the further south you go on Franklin Ave.

Then I guess I'm not in that bad a location. I live on Franklin/Alberta Dr., about a 10 minute walk from Peter Pond mall.
Yeah that area's not bad. Buddy of mine lives virtually right behind you.
I've only been here for approx. 3 weeks. Any good bars you'd recommend? Which ones to avoid? What kind of fun stuff is there to do here, most of the locals just laugh when I ask them what fun things is there to do around here. Most of them answer the same thing: get drunk.
I believe that at least 90% of you guys were born to a red-blue-white parents or at least a daddy who took you to games and beat the ***** out of you whenever you mentioned the words "Toronto maple leafs". My story is much, much different. I've moved to Canada 3.5+ years ago and you are probably asking yourself " then how the f$ck did u become a Habs fan? ??". I am a big soccer fan and when I moved here I thought that hockey was the ********* sport ever but as |they| say, "love at first sight". That's exactly what happened to me. I turned on the TV to watch something cuz I was bored and suddenly, there were the men of MTL. The Quebecois cupid hit me with his arrow in the face. HEAD SHOT. I have no other explanation to why I became a hab. What do u guys think ?
Mine is lame. My grandpa was a huge fan, lived through the glorious eras and I used to watch the games as a little kid. Plus Montreal and all that stuff.
What got me into prospects though was the lockout.

Lmao that's pretty much true. The Podollan is really the only good place in town to go to. It's right by the Boston Pizza downtown. Avoid Diggers and Cowboys. Ft Mac as a whole isn't really a fun place. Never has been. The locals suggestion to get drunk is pretty accurate, sadly.

The Pod is alright, but its certainly not the only place in town to go... Its not called "Cowboys" anymore and hasn't been for awhile. It's Club NV. But yeah, stay away from there. And Diggers as well... greasy spots,
Tavern on Main is a pretty decent little pub. Longshots is a beauty sports bar and has good food. Very friendly atmosphere and always runs good sports contests like hockey pools, football pick em's etc... They also have horse betting available there. Delaney's Irish Pub isn't a bad bar either, it's located in the basement of the Keg/hotel building.
Earl's in the summertime has a nice patio where most of the hot girls go... Either there or Moxie's. You're paying for atmosphere mostly there though... Paddy McSwiggin's allows you to see all the new Tap Out Shirts and steroid abusers with jacked up trucks if that's your cup of tea.
Mac Island has a bunch of fun stuff if you're into sports. Simulated golf, curling, hockey rinks and a pretty decent sized pool. There's a driving range out towards Gregoire, and there's a bunch of ball diamonds all over town with many different softball leagues. Miskinaaw golf course is a decent course as well but like most things up here it's fairly expensive.
If you're in to off road quadding, there's a ton of trails all over town and in behind places like Abasand. There's a shooting range outside of town as well...
