No joke. I'd even go as far as this, since it is the Habs "Francophone Uprising" we're talking about:
To MTL: Rights to P.A. Parenteau, 4th overall pick, 3rd rounder
To NYI: P.K. Subban, 4th rounder.
I wonder how quickly Bergevin would give a polite "Non." if we gave him an extra pick and the first crack at a Quebecer UFA Forward.
Lol we already made the worse trade ever with gomez we learned our lesson this is a terrible trade offer subban is worth a lot more then your 4th,if we want parenteau that bad we'll wait till july 1rst.
Michalek's $4 million per season salary is unworkable, then what exactly *is* workable for Garth Snow?
If I'm reading your posts correctly, his criteria (or one you're ascribing to him) is:
-must be a legitimate top four D
-must be signed to a long term deal (ie. more than 5 years)
-must make less than, what, $4 million per year? $3 million per year?
Each one of Ballard,Martin and Michalek have 3 yrs on their deal,at $4m-$5m per. Each is playing disappointing hockey.Maybe their play and the lengths of their contracts are the turnoffs for Snow.
Staples writes that Snow will look for like another Wiz situation:a team with a bad, short term contract.
I honestly think your criteria is a bit unrealistic. Top four defensemen make over $4 million a year. The only ones that don't are guys still on their ELC deals, or their first RFA deals. And those guys tend to be highly coveted by their own team, and would cost an overpayment to acquire (ie. Subban, Pietrangelo, etc.).
With SJ trading for Stuart, the press is saying Murray could be the odd man out.
Darcy Regher says he wants the Sabres to get bigger/tougher.Is he interested in the NYI's Lee + 2nd for Leopold who's a ufa in 2013?
Both make in the $2.5m-$3m range.
Snow's top 4 addition does not have to be an elite defenseman. Was Erhoff elite when Snow tried getting him?
If that truly is the criteria Snow has for who he will target, then the Isles will be going into next season with guys like Staios, Jurcina, and Eaton again taking up their 4, 5, and 6 spot in their defense
Aside from bringing in a top 4,the NY press says the Isles want Staios back and will have at least 1 of the Bridgeport young defenseman on the roster.
De Haan,Donovan,Ness or Katic
This thread has made me realize that MTL could have had one of the best young D pairings in the game
Ryan MCD- PK Subban....
That would of been a crazy pair.....
ok Back OT...Can we all please stop with " hes good friends with" or " they grew up together"...
All these guys are pretty much friends, from playing in juniors together, national teams, camps, and so on....
Its a Buisness, you try to get the best player you can that can improve your team.
The Isles are not getting PK Subban... I would love him here and would carry him on my back from MTL to LI if we could get him but No one in thier rite mind is Trading a 22 year old stud defensman without getting somthing major in return.
Now if the Islanders had a Carter or a Nash that would be a different story, but we dont have those types of players to give up....So we are going to have to stick it out, draft well, and hope that garth can pull off a few trades for some solid veteran defensman now that we have a deep enough prospect pool to do so.
The Islanders aren't likely to find any defensemen on the UFA market who will sign with them. Therefore, it's only via trade, and Snow just doesn't seem to like to make trades. Is it money? Is it not being confident? Is it that he doesn't really know what he's doing?
There's just a combination of things that make finding a player a difficult thing to do, especially the Islanders. Who's going to realistically OK a trade? At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if players started saying they won't show up (already happened with Nabokov).
Snow, and the Islanders, have to start getting serious about winning hockey games or all of this talk will be for nothing.
With SJ signing Stuart, would they be willing to Trade away Murray.
What would NYI have to send to SJ?
2012 4th + Anders Lee's rites for Murray?
Anders Lee has basically no value because he has already said he is staying in college for at least one more year yet a team has to sign him or lose his rights.
The price for Murray is high to mid 2nd rounder + a decent forward prospect. A better prospect may drop the pick a bit. The Sharks have NO NEED for defensive or goalie prospects. A natural RW is preferred over centers or LW.
