Philly-Flames

Now this came up and I was wondering your thoughts. IF(purely hypothetical) Briere and J-Bo both agreed to waive, would you do a 1 for 1 trade? I would. We would open up a C spot for Schenn, add our big minute D-man who can skate and move the puck. And we still have 6.5 mill in cash space for other moves.

FORWARDS
James Van Riemsdyk ($4.250m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($3.550m)
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Jaromir Jagr ($3.300m)
Matt Read ($0.900m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m)
Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Eric Wellwood ($0.580m)
Tom Sestito (600,000)

DEFENSEMEN
Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m) / Jay Bouwmeester ($6.680m)
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Braydon Coburn ($4.500m)
Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Marc-Andre Bourdon ($0.900m)
Andreas Lilja ($0.738m) or Gus

GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
Sergei Bobrovsky ($1.750m)

Briere is clutch in the playoffs. No shot

Just say no to Jay Bo!

I'd do it pretty easily. Both are overpaid based on their production--but Bouwmeester is like 5 years younger.

I've never been the biggest fan of Danny, though.

Honestly, I think the Flames probably laugh at this. If they move Bouwmeester, they need top-end prospects or a much, much younger piece than Briere.

I don't think its even worth speculating, because Danny won't waive his NMC.

Yea, it wouldn't work because of Briere's age. He would need to go to a contending team that thinks he could be the secondary scoring they need to get them a championship.

His boys are firmly rooted in South Jersey. Considering his joint custody arrangement it would be hard to believe he'd move to Calgary.

As we all know. It was a question of IF he was willing...would Flyers fans do this deal. That is all.

- Briere won't waive, and the Flyers likely won't ask him to.

- The 2C will probably be open to Schenn either way, Briere will be on his wing

- I can't imagine J-Bo will cost that much. The Calgary fans of course thing otherwise, but Calgary's GM must realize his cap hit is huge and he hasn't proven he's worth that since he was in FLA. I'd offer Read, Gus, and a mid-round pick (worth more in production/cap hit but Briere's overall value is higher than Read and Gus, no doubt)

I'd do this in a heartbeat, but Briere wouldn't waive.

I am not a fan of giving up Briere. If we win a Cup in the next three, he's going to be a huge part of why.

The guy is simply a unexplainably good in the playoffs. As long as getting to the postseason isnt an issue, I'm willing to give him a pass as long as he plays like a $6.5m player in April/May/June.

I know he can seem like a waste of space sometimes, but I am not willing to give him up if we're not getting a real game changer in return.

And I like Bouwmeester.

I wish he would waive it but I agree, maybe a move to Colorado he would like... And yeah he's so clutch and all but I would rather have a solid Dman signed then his old 6.5 mil ass, boys he's another year older, I don't see him doing it ever again

For those 13 points and 8 goals in the post season for Briere, he was on the ice for 21 goals against. Thats right, Briere was more valuable to the team when he wasn't on the ice.

If the flyers didn't take this deal they would be the dumbest team in the league. Boumeester is a top defenseman in the league. He's on the offensively inept flames, and logs minutes against the best players in the league for 30 minutes a game.

He used to be a top defencemen in the league, he's more of a #2 guy then #1

I would absolutely make that trade. Briere is a playoff scoring machine, but he's also a huge matchup liability and a defensive train wreck. Bouwmeester's contract is almost identical in cap hit and term, and it addresses a need by trading a strength.

You'd have a hard time convincing me that all or even a majority of those goals against were his fault.

Also, NHL.com says it was 16, not 21. He was also on the ice for 16 GF.

He is so rediculously underrated due to his massive salary. He played the toughest minutes this year than any other defenseman in the league.

Ah yeah, I was a bit naive and took his +- from his points. Forgetting about PP time. Regardless he was still -8 on the team. Thats horrendous, and it's quite evident to see that he cannot defense to save his life.

It would still drastically reduce the number of goals we give up just by not having Briere on the ice.

would take this trade in a heart beat. J Bo's going into his prime and can log top minutes...would be a huge acquisition but danny b would never waive.
