Who goes bye bye in the 2012 Draft?

Answering my own question in the title, maybe nobody, if this draft
is a weak one.

I haven't kept up on this draft, so I really don't know.

But I would think, if this was considered a good draft with guys our scouting staff thought could be
the next round of Simmondses, Voynovs, Quicks and others,
we might decide to move a few prospects for picks(?)

If so, I figure the guys most likely to be moved in this case might be:
Bernier (how much longer can we hang on to this guy? He could get us a nice 1st rounder for sure).

Drewiske-Not sure of he's still under contract, but if he is, he could be a nice, underrated addition to a trade.

Hickey-I kinda' hope we hold on to this guy, but he would be movable for a decent return, IMO.


Loktionov-Detroit would love him as Datsyuk's understudy. Maybe some other
teams would like him too? If we sign Stoll for another year or
2, we won't need him. Plus, he's small.

Toffoli-Tradeable only for a high pick to get us a
special, targetted player
in the Draft (and I don't even know if we have any of those this
year). He's talented, but small and not particularly fast. His maximum
upside is probably Cammalleri II.

Moller-Again, not sure if he's still under contract, but if he is, the GM in
Toronto always liked him;Could yield a decent draft pick.

Muzzin, Holloway, Deslauries---Too valuable to trade.



But this is all nil if this year is a weak draft year.

I think they'll try to move Holloway and Möller for whatever they can get. Bernier will probably be shopped. Loktionov could possibly be moved, as could Brad Richardson. I don't think there are any takers for Westgarth.

I don't see Toffoli being traded even if it's for a high pick(not counting like 1-4 which isn't happening)

Some "insiders" seem to think Bernier won't be moved until after Quick is extended.

Bernier might be traded, but I'm beginning to doubt it by the day. The number of teams looking for goalies appears pretty small.

Drewiske has another year on his contract and won't be traded (little value). He will be #7 again next year.

Hickey probably needs to be traded for another prospect who needs a change of scenery.

Toffoli is 6'1" 200 lbs, he's not small and I wouldn't trade him. He's one of the only true goal scoring prospects we have.

I think Richardson is a candidate to be moved at the draft.

Richardson and Loktionov are the two most likely to me. Loktionov will be stuck behind Kopitar and Richards for years, so he will probably get a chance to move on.

I also think either Martinez or Hickey will be moved. Hickey and Martinez seemed neck and neck in training camp, and won't both be waiver eligible next year? (on my iphone don't want to try checking)

They both serve a similar role, and I know DL was high on Hickey for a while, which is why I see it as a possibility.

The Kings would be foolish to move Martinez, he's really turning a corner.

Hickey and Richardson are my guesses, with Loktionov 50/50. Bernier will not be moved IMO. That shouldn't happen until Quick's contract is resolved.

I agree. We can't get a good enough return for him to justify a trade.

I think Bernier and Hickey are goners. They both deserve chances on other teams.

Richardson and Drewiske are perfect depth players, who are excellent at coming from the press box and filling a hole without faltering. At the least they'll both play out their current contracts.

I think you overestimate Bernier's value. I don't see him going for a first. Maybe Bernier and another player for a first, but not Bernier on his own.

Why do we need to trade anyone? We're under the cap. Depth is a good thing.

I'm going to predict that the Kings scouts unearth a gem with one of the late round selections we have (and we have plenty).

If DL is confident in Hickey's ability to fill AMart's role then AMart could garner a higher return since his stock is much higher in the afterglow of the playoffs.

Personally, I think that DL will keep all of the above, see how the youngsters perform through the beginning of the season and keep his chips in hand for trades.

This needs to stop. Kompon sits down with 3 linemates and watches tapes with them. He's done a great job in that regard.
