Carolina "coveting" Sam Gagner?

Apparently Jeff Marek went on Oilers Now and said this:

Quote:
OilersNow ‏@OilersNow
@JeffMarek is hearing that Sam Gagner is coveted by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Would be a good fit in Carolina I think. What would Edmonton want in return? McBain? McBain for Gagner I think would be solid for both teams.

I'd say that'd be a good move, but Carolina might need to add something minute like a late pick...

Some kind of package along the lines of McBain for Gagner would work well for both sides I think.

I think Gagner's game is better suited to the Eastern Conference.

This was pure speculation by Marek.

He said that the Oilers are really high on Griffin Reinhart, and that the Oilers should try to parlay Gagner into the 8th overall.

Marek has no inside information, he was just making a suggestion.

I don't see how Sam Gagner can get you the 8th overall pick.

I understand that picks have potential and there's some good value in that.

I'd also wager that 10 years from now if Gagner was ranked with the 10 players picked 5-14th in this draft. He'd be ranked ahead of 5 of them.

Yeah, this. Trading from D depth (Carolina) for forward depth (Edmonton) makes sense on the surface, but he 8th is a ludicrous demand for Gagner and Oilers fans have repeatedly said how they cannot trade Gagner for anytrhing but a 2C upgrade.

The only way the 8th overall will be included in a deal is if Hemsky+Gagner are coming the other way IMO, plus something from Carolina.

Interesting....I have read a couple of times now that Carolina's 8th overall is very much on the Trading Block....as is Edmonton's Sam Gagner.

If Gagner fits a need in Carolina, I could see Gagner + 32st overall for 8th overall being announced on draft day.

I'm not saying it's impossible to have those two pieces as the main items of a trade, but I imagine if we get a couple Hurricanes fans to appear in this thread, they would not like it.

Marek also said something about moving Staal to the wing if the Hurricanes pick up Gagner. I really don't know what he's talking about.

I would love to move Gagner for Mcbain. However, if I was a betting man I would say Tambellini would be in talks for 8th OA. With that move they could get a solid shot at snagging Yakupov and Griffin Reinhart. That being said My proposal will be as follows.

To Canes:
Gagner
Linus Omark

To Oilers:
2012 1st Rnd pick
Conditional 2013 2nd Rnd pick (if Canes make playoffs)

I feel the difference between the two players is not that much, the suggested swap of the Oilers 3rd round pick for the 2nd round pick of the Carolina is fair, maybe adding a 7th from the Canes is better

I refuse trading the 8 point man.
What if he gets 8 points in EVERY GAME THIS YEAR?

If the price is McBain, Carolina should run.

WOW...Robbery of the CENTURY by Edmonton. Not even if they included the 1st overall instead of the 2nd rounder would that be fair IMO.
