Seems like a horrible deal for the Blackhawks. I'd jump all over this if I was the Sens.

Not sure why, but I checked into the Niklas Hjalmarsson trade rumors. Don't expect that to happen at this point. #Blackhawks

you think that moving down 3 spots, Smith (a bottom 6 player) and a 3rd would be too much for Hjammer?

Or you could look at it as a 3rd, a #7 forward (the type of player you win cups with) and moving down 3 spots to get a much less valuable prospect (from 15th to 18th; Maata, Lindholm, Ceci, Faksa >> whoever at 18) for a #4 defenseman.

1. If these 4 guys go from 15 - 18, you will get 1 of them
2. Smith has won a cup? Smith has won a PO series? Smith is a bottom 6 player. Nothing more, nothing less.
4. Hjammer was the Hawks #3 while they won the cup

I dont like this.

Smith is a very valuable asset to the Sens. He is the third line center, I wouldnt be counting on Regin for nothing.

We can sign another D without losing Smith.

I'd be ok with dealing for Hammer, but if it was anything more than Smith than not interested. Comparable options out there that would cost less in terms of trade price & contract dollars.

Dot want Smith.

We have plenty of
Prospects from the cup dismantling to make the team this year or next and Hammer is our Volchenkov type we need his D.

I'd rather keep Hammer and give one of Beach/Saad/Morin/Hayes a legit shot

you blame him for signing the OS that gave him a way better contract than he would have gotten from Bowman? Really?

The cost to move up from 18 to 15 is usually a 3rd-round pick.

If some people seem ok with Smith + 3rd-round pick for Hjammer, then Smith + 15 for Hjammer + 18 should be fair value for both teams. I think it is.

I'd do Smith + 3rd + 15th for Hjalmarsson and the 18th.

Seems like a fair enough deal. Smith is a hell of a good 3rd liner, but we can try Regin in that hole, or Winchester. Could also conceivably try JOB or sign a placeholder 3rd line center. They won't bring anywhere near the physicality or intensity of Smith, but with Jackman now off the market, this may be one of our best options.

Should still be able to draft a Bystrom, Finn, Pouliot or Lindholm in the 18 slot. Who knows who would be available at 18, but I think its worth it to add a guy like Hjalmarsson who suits our needs to the letter.

Apparently Smith isnt even a normal C, and is better suited for the wing..according to Travis Yost...if thats the case...PASS

There's your problem.

Smith is great at faceoffs...and plays center very well.

That's such a stupid typical Yost thing to say.

Oh hey, we have a physical player, we should play him on the wing!

I don't know why he's saying that. I guess the issue is that you'd want Smith to be the first into the corners and as a C, you're typically not, but otherwise Smith is great at faceoffs and plays the position quite well.

1. They're all gonna go in the top 15 probably, hopefully one of them will be there at 15. My point was none are likely to be available at 18.
2. Smith is the type of player you win with on your 3rd line... don't worry, he's young, and has spent 2 years in the league... you expect him to have a cup already? He was also awesome in the Calder Cup playoffs last year
4. Where's 3?
4. Hammer was the Hawks #4 last year, on a first round exit team.

While they won the cup? What is that even supposed to mean?

I'm not disagreeing with any points, but what an incredibly irrelevant point. Chris Phillips was our #2 defenceman when we won the cup. So what?

It's a what have you done for me lately business, and rightfully so. No one should care what happened when the Hawks won the cup.

EDIT: Also, Travis Yost isn't the be all and end all of hockey experts (not even freaking close). I see Smith as a C, not a winger.

48% is far from being great at faceoffs. Thats what Bolland gets and us Hawk fans think he is terrible at the dot.

Ill take your word for the rest.

Yosty is a boss and easily the best Ottawa hockey writer not on T6S but he's off base there. Smith scores most his goals from the wing, yes but he has huge value as a good, strong forechecking center.

Smith+3rd+1st for Hammer+1st is fair. Chicago gets Lindholm, Koekkoek or Finn to replace Hammer, Ottawa gets Gaunce or Wilson to replace Smith. That could definitely work.

Don't think the sens would need to replace Smith through the draft. Would more likely take one of Pouliot, Finn, Koekkoek, or one of the D left remaining.
