Should Stastny go back to using a wood stick?

With Wood stick:

2006–07 Colorado Avalanche NHL 82 28 50 78
2007–08 Colorado Avalanche NHL 66 24 47 71
2008–09 Colorado Avalanche NHL 45 11 25 36
2009–10 Colorado Avalanche NHL 81 20 59 79

With Graphite stick:

2010–11 Colorado Avalanche NHL 74 22 35 57
2011–12 Colorado Avalanche NHL 79 21 32 53

Coincidence? I think not

I think he had better control on his backhand with the wood twig. Also think he was a better passer with the real lumber. If I recall correctly, he made a comment about switching due to a) thought it would improve his goal scoring b) harder to find manufacturers (although I always assumed b was more of a joke.)

It did improve his goal scoring looking at the stats, although his point total declined, his goal to assist ratio went way up.

He should cut a tree down and carve his own stick.

I'm pretty sure this is a legitimate reason, and why there are very few, if any, players in the NHL using wood sticks anymore.

I'm pretty sure if Paul Stastny asks Easton, CCM, Bauer or Sherwood to produce some wood sticks they are going to throw a ton of those at him.
That's definitely not an issue for an NHL player.

I think it was Sherwood who made his wooden sticks before.

As for the question about players still using wooden sticks... I don't think anyone does. Having a trawl through google, so far this is the only thing I've found and it references a TSN poll, but there's no link. I'll keep digging.

I do think it's mostly a coincidence.

For most of the 10'-'11 season, I had thought the slowdown was mostly due to adapting to the stick change.

But after watching the `11-`12 season, I've decided the drop has been a combination of many factors, including inconsistent line combos, a cold streak, a lower scoring NHL, coaching adjustments, defensive pairings, and perhaps for a certain period of time, adjusting to the stick change as well. But I don't think that is the only thing, and I think he's probably moved past that now.

I think it is mostly a coincidence that the stick change coincided with or slightly preceded several of the other changes.

He just needs solid consistent line mates, those goal totals are pretty consistent but the assists have gone down big time, obviously if you were a Avs fan these last years looking at who he plays with you would know why. He will be fine I expect the old Stastny to be back, I think Mcginn, Stastny, Jones line is going to be great.
