I questioned whether re-signing Jagr was a good idea in January and had scorn poured mercilessly on me. As the season went on it seemed like less and less of a good idea to pour $3.3m into him.

I'm a little disappointed to lose him, but I would be disappointed to see us spend more than $2.5m on him.

I would have liked to keep him for another year just because of how much it seemed he influenced the younger guys but from an on-the-ice perspective I think we can put that 3 mill to better uses.

Any and all of his "influence" on the younger guys is pure speculation and even if he did have that much of an affect I still don't think it's worth 3 to 4 mil so I'd rather not re-sign him.

I'm not really sure how that is a speculation when even people like Giroux admit Jagr had big impact in that area.

You can google numerous articles about it...

One example from many:

He is a good team player and he has helped so many guys in this room on and off the ice.

Giving vague praise to a player's character isn't an uncommon thing in sports. Supporting your teammates on and off the ice, sometimes through media quotes, is a pretty simple and common thing.

I wouldn't say it's speculation, but it's definitely not worth burning 3 million and a roster spot.

I could take or leave Jagr. It was cool seeing and I'd love him back at the same amount or less money, but if he bolts I won't be too upset. I'll just go back to hating his guts.

After how he showed he matured I don't hate him, just wished the flyers drafted him lol, however I don't want him back unless 2.5 or less, need to save as much as we can so we can maybe make a deadline deal later in the year

Yet I don't think that could be called a pure speculation, when people like Holmgren, Giroux or e.g. Couts praise what he did. Call me idealist but I choose to believe what they say.

NHL Network said last night that Jagr will test the free agency market.

I still think it's a coin flip whether he re-signs with the Flyers, but posted this two weeks ago:

Sounds like:

- he doesn't expect to return to Flyers
- he'll be quicker, probably drop 20 pounds or something (similar to what he did during the last lockout)
Latest update:

Jaromir Jagr enjoyed Phildadelphia, but plans on testing free agency. Also plans to change training to shed some lbs and get faster.

It was fun while it lasted, but looks like he is leaving.
Signed, a wildly unrealistic Jagr fanboy, who knows nothing.

Good. He's probably going to get too big of a cap hit for a guy who looked horrendous in the playoffs. I just don't think he has the legs anymore.

It's easy to assume that it's all about his age, and I think that's what a lot of people are doing. However, remember he was up against the following last year:

- age, of course
- trained more for strength than speed, based on NHL not being as fast when he left for KHL
- not used to longer schedule after 3 years away
- groin injury early in season and probably never healed completely, since he came back to soon... this also likely affected his training

If he's really over the hill and injury prone, then we'll find out next year. He was even giving it a good effort in preseason last year... no one tries in preseason, especially Jagr. I expect more like the 2008 Jagr next season: take off the preseason, take it easier in early and/or middle of the season, then finish strong (especially the playoffs). I might be wrong, but that's what I am guessing.

TMTR:
Flyers: We want you back next year
Jagr: I want top 6 minutes
Flyers: We might be able to do that, we are trying to pick up a few players
Jagr: I want top 6 minutes or i'm not coming back
Flyers: You will be 41 and are injury prone
Jagr: Next year i'll be better, i lose wait, you'll see, strong like bull
Flyers: Let's wait till July 1st

How does Jagr react!?!
Jagr1: Hmmph. I'll sign with devils or kings
Jagr2: Hmm flyers are a great team, i'll take 2 million and play on the third line (lol)
Jagr3: Signs with whichever team gives him top line minutes (or for Jagr haters, whichever team pays more)

I was just looking at some stats, the last time the flyers have had a player with over 90 points in the regular season was in 2000 when Recchi hit 91 in 2000. Giroux tied Lindos' 93 points from the 99 season. The flyers did have some success with gange, richards and carter but Giroux has exceeded them in just this season. You can say he did it all on his own, but many can make a case that Jagr helped him out a lot. Look at Jagr's last NHL team he was on, his three years with the rangers averaged 96 points a season. Since Jagr left, the rangers have struggled to get anyone over 60 points in one season!!!

If you want to help your offense, it seems like the best choice is to sign Jagr. The flyers are "stacked" on offense, so i can understand why the Flyers may not want to sign him, or offer him less than what Jagr wants. Jagr obviously still wants top 6 minutes and to me that is all he cares about. You can say it's about the money, but i think Jagr just wants to be the best hockey player possible. He is very humble but deep down inside he wants to be on the ice with 1 minute left to win it.

If the flyer's don't land parise or whoever they are looking for, i'm sure they will come at Jagr unless another team scoops him up. I would agree, it's about a 50/50 chance Jagr comes back. If the flyers sign any big name offensive players, Jagr is out. This reminds me of the Rangers writing on the wall when they signed Redden, Gomez and Drury to ridiculous contracts, leaving no room for Jagr. Jagr has seen this happen before and that is why he is hesitant to agree to anything now, because if these new flyers come in his ice time will certainly go down.

May have to give Jags the ole goodbye salute...

Quote:
Jaromir Jagr interested the Red Wings last season, and will likely interest them again this year. They offered him $2.5 million last year before he signed for $3.3 million with the Flyers. The Wings want to add a top 6 forward, and if they can’t land Zach Parise, Jagr could be part of their backup plan. The Red Wings would like to re-sign Jiri Hudler, but he may test free agency.

Apparently Jay Feaster in Calgary is interested in making a pitch for Jagr. It would be interesting to see what Feaster is willing to offer Jagr. If he offers Jaromir a contract that's like 4 million for the year, I could see Jagr going there. Now, this rumour was posted on CNNSI.com, so take it for what it is.

Flames have to overpay for almost everyone. That organization is abysmal.

Just so you guy know. Jagr playing for the Flyers reminds me of how Sundin played for the Canucks for that half year. Both are vets that brought a lot to the dressing room and helped improve the younger players games. I guarantee that you will see a huge improvement to a lot of young players' games next season if Jagr was able to influence them.
