I don't have a problem with the Rangers taking Laughton because players on other teams are going to be like 'this guy is an a**hole'. I don't know if he's quite David Clarkson good as a fighter but that's one guy I might compare him to. There are some skills there.

Wedgewood considered the best at the moment--their thinking that he has No. 1 potential. Whatever the case I don't think any of them are likely to replace what Brodeur gave them all these years. Like him or not he'll be in the HOF as soon as he's eligible. I don't think NJ can rely on either Vasilevskiy or Subban being around when their turn comes and it's doubtful to me that they'd rate Dansk that much higher than Wedgewood.

As for completing a trade--why would they need to wait? This is the year really when you give it up. Tail end of the first round of an iffy draft class. Between this year and last they've picked 4th and 29th. There are no guarantees they'll even make the playoffs next year--especially if they lose Parise. Technically it's a first round pick--whatever that means--we could almost call it a glorified 2nd round pick. It doesn't make sense to me what LL is doing here. I suppose he could try to move up with it if he has a certain player targeted but he will have to combine it with another asset(s). We're all over the board ourselves who to take picking one spot earlier and we're looking almost exclusively at projects more likely 3 years away.
Hadn' tought about that.

I'd be happy if he drops to #28
But if one of Tampa, Nashville, Montreal are pining for somebody at 28, I hope we take 2 2nds for that pick , thank you kindly.

bunch of guys after 35 that we've discussed...if the draft plays out like that might be tempted to move down trying to add another 2nd

Anybody have thoughts on Ville Pokka?

Gemel Smith also seems to be interesting for a second round pick.

Same here. Haven't been this excited for the Draft ever.

I feel that the Rangers will pick some players who will fall and there will be some interesting trades as well.

Hockey Prospect seems to be very low on Kerdiles. They had him at #50

Some interesting tidbits they mentioned:

Quote:
Although Nick had a strong U18 tournament on the scoreboard, we don’t he his offensive talent projecting to the NHL level. We feel that he will need to make it as bottom six guy and there are holes in his game that might prevent that from happening. The problem we see is that he does not fit a bottom six NHL role because he frowns on any sort of physical play.
Quote:
”Not only does he not hit anyone, he actually almost looks to be working hard to avoid hitting anyone.”, “I’m not sure if there was a player in this draft where the gap between what the ‘media’ was saying and what I heard from NHL scouts was bigger than that of Kerdiles. I thought he had some fantastic games but I don’t see what spot he would slide into on an NHL roster, given what I see in his current game.”

Are you going to be okay if the Rangers pass on Kerdiles and he falls to the 2nd round?

I think the only scouting agency that's particularly high on him is ISS.

One 2 round mock has the Rangers selecting Matteau in the first and Anton Slepyshev in the second. Kerdiles was taken 42nd overall to Buffalo.

Hart was taken with the last pick in the second.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be better value in the d-men projected to be available at the Rangers pick than the forwards? I feel some teams may reach for forwards, the Rangers may end up with a good d-man available to them at the end of the 1st round.

It's a solid draft for d-men. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see us end up with one at the end of the first. I just hope it's Thrower.

Not too high on either for #28.

Thats mynhl draft site? That site is eye candy. As far as I recall those mocks have been pretty inaccurate when it comes to order. 2nd round? Thats almost impossible, but we should start a contest thread right away

Thats the NYR catch 22 of this draft. Looking at a conservative 2012 draft board, best players projecting for late 1st round are goalies and Dmen. I won't argue that there are some nice looking forward who could drop, there are alot of defenders with attractive size and mobility in this years draft, and if you don't mind the skating there are a number of behemoths with some edge available. Cheap youth with size and skill needed for depth. This is what its all about, no?

I like Thrower, Finn, and what about Jordan Schmaltz? Size, Righty shot, leader on USHL Cup team, attending North Dakota next fall:

Check out the profiles/interviews on there, some good ones, though the interviewer is cheesy - Thomas Wilson, guy is HUGE ! Kerdiles, Thrower, Winther, Koekkoek.

Schmaltz lookin like Shea Weber there

Schmatlz! That's the player I have been wanting to talk about! Thank you very much! I LOVE what I have read about him and I love the fact that he is going to ND. Love that program.

He has to fill out and and continue to improve. I hope North Dakota is the right choice.

Really hoping that one of Collberg or Aberg falls down to us/far enough for us to trade up.

My pipe dream is that Grigrenko falls to the middle of the first (ala Cherepanov RIP )and we swoop in and grab him. That would make me really happy.

If Koekkoek was healthy, he'd challenge for top ten. We've been saying this alot this year with all these guys. I can't remember when so many top guys were as injured.

Thrower is hard one to determine. His package looks great (that's what she said!!) at the Dub, but not sure if this is him peaking.

Schmaltz seems to have a dirty shot, release. Don't know much else.
