in the hyperinflated market for veteran D-men, we did get a discount guys. I'm pleased it didn't break 4m

Perhaps, but at 3.6 for Stuart is a good deal of the Sharks.

He was improving every year until the Jody Shelley incident. He clearly regressed after that. Thankfully found his game again in Detroit.

I was hoping for 3.3m, but 3.6 is still a discount. Our D is all set now, only moves we can make on D is to ship players out.

Anaheim? A team that had to play Brookbank and Lydman all year?

I guess Stuart could have accepted less but the fact is why should he. I like some other posters feel that HTD is over-rated.

In the end I think it was a fair deal. He wanted to sign here and we wanted him to sign here as well. It was a win-win.

Man, some of you guys are cheapasses. It's good deal. I do wonder whether there's an NMC involved.

The golden rule of negotiations is making both sides happy. It's a win-win for both sides and that's what matters. Screwing him over in a deal would affect his on-ice performance and possible future contracts with him or other free agents.

A team with Visnovsky, Beauchemin, Lydman, Sbisa, and Fowler is not going to pay four million dollars for Brad Stuart. Lydman wasn't even that bad like you're trying to make him out to be and Brookbank is a third pairing guy. You don't pay a guy four mil to replace someone on the third pairing.

I don't know yet if it's a fair deal. It depends on the movement clause.

Curious, Stuart trained with the Sharks over the summers when he was with the Wings, anyone remember which side he played on or who he played with?

It was never really on-ice "training". He participated at the Captain's Practices (as did players like Setoguchi, Cheechoo, and Nolan). There aren't really any sides, just skating around and shooting at the goalies.

More like a game of Shinny. Sometimes D play as "forwards" rather than defensively. (Think working on skating legs/breath rather than any "set plays.")

It isn't until about a week before camp that there are enough guys to play position, and second, by that time he was off to other team.

Douglas Murray better be going because that's an expensive top 5. 5 d-men making 2.5 mill and above.
Vlasic is still getting more than Stuart. Vlasic is getting 3.7 this year, and will probably get a raise.

Actually they'll probably do his contract this summer.

Everyone seemed to think we were going to bully him into some super cheap contract simply by the fact that he wants to be here. This is about where I thought it'd be.

fearthefin not terribly happy with the signing. i really don't think he's what we need to make our team into cup contenders. lest anyone forgot, we were really bad this past season. are we starting to be satisfied with just first round exits?

I was hoping for $3.3mil a year so $3.6mil isn't that out of line. I am sure he will have a full ntc but I am not sure about a nmc. I was more hoping for a 2 year deal though since according to wings fans he did not finish the season that well. Also I believe it would have allowed us to give him another contact without it being a 35+ contract next time. We can't really judge the contract this early and make a declaration of it being horrible/good.

Why that particular response to that post?

Are you saying that with the new writers, the quality may not be as good?

Piggybacking on this-

I didn't realize FTF had changed hands. No more plank and the gang? Link to the announced change of editors? Can't seem to find any posts about it.

Here's their goodbye post.

While I like the new guys, I feel like they depend too much on stats. That and they're nowhere near as witty as Taylor and Plank.

I don't understand posts like this. He made 3.75 last year and when he signed that contract it was generally considered to be home town discount to stay with the wings. The cap has gone up so lots of teams have cap space. There are very few top 4 D men available. Every year lots of players get paydays that shock us on July 1st. If he went UFA and went to the highest bidder, there is no way he wouldn't get 4 million+.
