If the Flyers got Nash and he played with Giroux, Giroux would never take another shot on goal as a Philadelphia Flyer because he would always be trying to pass the puck to Nash.

Columbus has said that for Nash they are expecting

1. A good player

2. A decent prospect

3. A draft pick

4. Possibly a veteran

So if they trade with Philly I would expect

1. Giroux (or with the Blue Jackets luck maybe Briere)

2. Bourdon (or if the good player is Briere maybe Couturier)

3. 2nd or 3rd round pick ( if Briere and Bourdon then possible 1st)

4. Columbus would love to get Jody Shelley back on their roster ( if not than maybe Ian Laperriere or even Hartnell)

You may think I'm crazy but remember the only reason the Jackets are trading Nash is to get a big start on rebuilding the team (again). I really hope they dont waste Nash for a bunch of bust players.

As a Jackets fan I shudder to think of how Howson could screw this one up.

Yeah, it makes sense to start with a better player than Nash with less than half of his cap hit.

And after that overhaul, the 1st round pick probably would be McKinnon

Giroux
Briere
McKinnon
Hartnell

for Nash

Seems fair..

Of course that would never happen, but when you are a CBJ fan all you can do is dream. Besides I heard they might trade him to the Leafs for Kessel.

lol oh my god. JVR, Bourdon, 2nd, Shelley would be more realistic...Giroux with his talent and cap hit is basically untouchable.

1. Giroux wouldn't be traded for everyone on Columbus's roster combined.

2. Giroux isn't a "good player". Nash is a "good player". Giroux is a superstar.

This is absurd, Columbus first of all asked for an 2 NHL players, above average prospect and a first rounder, Hartnell isn't going anywhere, neither is briere unfortunately, giroux would net Nash, mason, and 2 first rounders, at least and Lappy retired

Just thought of this, as he is a RFA I believe, what would it take to get him?

Too much, Dallas can't afford to lose him. There is rumors that Dallas will be players in the UFA pool too. They have money to spend this year, and are looking to improve their team.

Again I never thought in a million years that trade would go through. I was just thinking something up!

And don't get me wrong I'm a big Giroux fan, but I wouldn't call him a superstar just yet. Sure his career is young but he hasn't gotten 100 points yet! Giroux's 93 points made him an elite player for sure, but I'm not calling anyone a superstar until they can score that amount for years in a row. So maybe we can say Giroux is a superstar in 2016-2017, when the Flyers have themselves a cup!

Just posted this in the offseason thread, but if we're looking to make a trade with Columbus, I think David Savard would be a worthwhile target. Big/physical kid, RH shot, and I like what I read about his skill set (as well as what I see stat-wise).

Are you saying Nash and savard or just savard?

Just Savard. Forget about Nash at the current asking price. Truth be told, I wanted Nikita Nikitin last offseason when he was buried on the Blues depth chart, then Howson swooped in early in the season and traded for him. He ended up blossoming into a top-4 defenseman for Columbus. It's those kind of under-the-radar and ready to breakout players that a GM has to identify and target for acquisition.

The playoffs are why people are so excited about G. Regular season points are nice, but playoffs matter. CBJ wouldn't get that

Giroux- cannot be serious.

I don't think there is a player in the league right now that the Flyers would trade Giroux for. Not even Crosby, Malkin or Stamkos.

If the Flyers want to acquire Nash (my personal opinion is that they probably shouldn't), I think a package centered around JVR is the only option this team has to bargain with. If that's the case, I think the 2nd player in the deal would have to be someone who's pretty good. Something like this.

1. JVR
2. Read/ Meszaros
3. Prospect like Bourdon/ Gustaffson
4. 1st/2nd/3rd pick

#3 and #4 would depend on who goes in #2. I think #2, the second player in the deal, would be the most important piece and would probably decide whether or not Columbus would do the deal. Make no mistake though, the only way the Flyers are trading for Nash is if JVR is in the deal, and if Columbus feel he is worth taking a flyer (no pun intended) on.

They are trading Nash to jumpstart a rebuild. Do you think JVR could be an essential piece in the rebuild of a franchise? From what we've seen so far, I don't think so. Maybe Howson is optimistic (read: dumb) enough to think so, in which case I could see a trade happening. My issue will be with that second player we have to give up....if its Read, I say heck no. Simmonds? No. Couturier? You'd have to be crazy.

On the other hand, do I like the idea of Rick Nash playing on a top line with Giroux? To me, that sounds awesome, especially considering Nash is pretty good defensively as well. Is the cost worth it? Probably not.

I think we're better off letting the Rangers dump high level prospects like Kreider and Erixon, and bright young players like MDZ and McDonaugh (although they would have to be brain dead to trade McDonaugh, I see Norris trophies in his future). I got the distinct feeling that NYR were playing Kreider in the playoffs not only for added scoring, but also to showcase his talents as trade bait to attract established scoring (eg. Nash) in the offseason. The Rangers have been so good with holding back the last few years, I think they are due for a bonehead trade!
