Rather keep the pick and hope Grigerenko/Galchenyuk is still on the board, though I'd be happy if the Leafs managed to get Stastny.

Draft Picks in this years draft class are being overrated.
Paul Stastny is being severely overrated.
Jay Bouwmeester is being severely underrated.

Stastny and Bouwmeester fall into the same category and thus would carry a very similar value. Both have had their offensive numbers drop the last couple years, both make around the same and both are excellent players that just aren't elite.

When it comes to picks I see the fact that Penner, Fisher, Versteeg and Brouwer all landed mid/late 1st round picks (all but Brouwer got additional picks/prospects as well) last year in what was said to be a deeper draft. So to think in a weaker draft year that the likes of Bouwmeester and Stastny aren't worth a pick in the 5-10 range is pretty absurd IMO.

I would say that Stastny/Bouwmeester/5th Overall are all pretty close in value and only minor tweaks would be needed.

Colorado gets a top4 defenseman who isnt signed longer then 2 years, and could rebound.

Personally I think calgary needs to give something more to colorado to make this fair. I would think maybe Moss and a 2nd/3rd round pick?

Colorado isnt getting enough to seal the deal, but otherwise I think its decent proposal.
Its nice to know there are some who can logically discuss hockey on these boards. I was beginning to get worried. This is exactly the premise of the trade proposal. However it always turns into a whos Dick is bigger contest, rather than an attempt to make a fair exchange. However it seems that Avs fans have made their mind up about Bouwmeester, so there isn't a discussion to be had.

Why is Toronto involved in this trade?

Bouwmeester - Stastny
Calgary - Colorado

With some spare parts going one way or the other way is a deal that looks good from both ends to be honest. Both are coming off bad seasons, both have similar contracts, both are around the same age group.
Colorado requires a defencemen, Calgary needs a top line center.

Colorado won't trade their most consistent center for JayBo.

Solid deal for the Leafs - Leafs get a #1 C who could just need a change of scenery (doesn't look to be injuries) and move Komi's contract as well, which makes room for Holzer.

Great deal for the Flames - Top 5 pick will do a lot to add some talent to that terrible prospect pool. It's really time to start the rebuild there. They've got a couple young pieces already in place.. just need to keep shedding expensive vet talent.

I think J-Bo is becoming a bit underrated around here but Colorado definitely deserves more. Centers aren't easy to come by.

Time for an experiment:
Tyler Bozak's 2011-12 pace applied to 82 games: 20 goals, 33 assists
Paul Stastny's 2011-12 pace applied to 82 games: 22 goals, 33 assists

Tyler Bozak has a $1.5 million cap hit. Paul Stastny has a $6.6 million cap hit. Regardless of whatever arguments you can come up (Bozak played with Kessel, Stastny is better defensively, etc.), Bozak is much better value given those price tags. And he can hold his own until the Leafs develop that #5 pick or find a true number 1 centre. No interest.

I feel psychic somehow...

It's also not about whether arguments can come up (I assure you, they are in plain sight) it is about whether you'll allow yourself to see them or not.

Why would teams want Stastny if his cap hit is such a demotivating factor like some fans in this thread seem to believe?

Clearly Bozak>Stastny for his salary. Stastny+Duchene+Johnson for Bozak?
BTW It's never Avs fans trying to trade Stastny away, is always another team's fan trying to trade FOR Stastny. "Stastny is such a horrible overpaid 50 points centre, but since we're so nice we'll take him away from you for scraps"

Not a Col fan, but Stastny's worst season and Bozak's best season doesn't provide a good comparison. That's comparing apples to oranges.
