You want to swing for the fences, you take Tanner Pearson. That's very high risk, very high reward if it works out.
I'm taking him because he is older and possibly could come in and make an impact sooner than a lot of the the other players. I think he could come in this camp, surprise some people and make this team out of camp.

See, that's exactly why I wouldn't take him. Well not exactly why. But drafting a 20 y/o in the first round is a little unsettling.
Personally I did not see anything resembling a competent offensive game the few times I watched Wilson this year while checking in on Miller. To the point where I was shocked he was getting 1st round consideration.
I believe it was Trxjw who said he stepped it up in the playoffs. If that is the case I could live with the pick.
Matteau.... I want another father son thing two Rangers son play for us......Erixon and Matteau
Not to throw you under the bus, but you don't draft a guy just cause his dad played for the Rangers. He's just not a great prospect. I would be beyond upset if we picked him in the first, or second for that matter.

I thought he was projected as a late first prospect, if he fell further in the draft that I was not aware of then definitely don't pick him.

Correct. Wilson was one of those cases where he looked like he was going to break out all season long, but he just never put it together. Finally after a good showing at the top prospects game, he started to improve.
What really sticks out for me were some comments I read from him about how the playoffs felt like a fresh start. He came out and dominated. Hitting everything in sight, and playing very well offensively. I think he just got so demoralized by the lack of success he was having in the regular season, that he couldn't get out of his funk.
The tools are there. He has great hands for a kid his size, and does extremely well when it comes to protecting the puck. Very good shot as well. His skating is unorthodox, but it's not nearly as bad as his detractors like to make it out to be. There's a lot of upside with him, but if he doesn't put it all together, he's good enough to be a Steve Bernier type. Hopefully without the penalties in the SCF.

If you want high risk, he is the highest risk of them all. But, the reward can be very high as well. He's produced numbers that stick out so much that as a 20 yo, he's being projected as a late 1st. There is something there. Sometimes it comes later in a players career. He's got a ton of talent and more importantly, he's working hard now and has something to prove.
I think it's time to take a risk in round one with some skill. This would be the ultimate risk/reward. He'd basically come right into the organization as well in the AHL.
I wouldn't be surprised if they went in another direction, but this guy screams high risk/high reward.
