Brandon Prust

If the Rangers decide to tie up their cap space by picking up a guy like Nash, what are the odds of landing a guy like Brandon Prust?

He's a solid skater, he's exceptional on the PK, he's still young (28), and he's a fantastic team guy who'll stand up for his teammates while playing tough even through injuries. I'd love to see Prust on our fourth line along with Helm and Abdelkader. They'd bring a steady dose of speed, energy, and grit, and they'd be very difficult to play against.

So what do you guys think of Brandon Prust?

I would love him too. I just think he will stay at the Rags no matter what.

He seems to be a heart and soul guy, like a Max Talbot. Still surprised Pittsburgh let him go.

For the right term sure. Prust, Gator and Miller/Eaves on the 4th line would be nice.

Rangers may low ball him, Torts was on record as saying they may not be able to afford him. I'd love for the Wings to grab him

I'm all the Red Wings signing him, but if not, there are a few other solid guys out there that could fill a similar role.

Moen, Moss and Pyatt...to name a few.

I'd take him for sure. Really doubt he becomes available though.

For the bottom six I would love to have him or Pyatt, both would be a big upgrade over Abdelkader and Emmerton thats for sure.

i actually like pyatt the best of all those ... he's got the offensive upside to play on the third line, even second line if we're really in a pinch. wished the wings signed him two years ago. i'd throw 2.5m at him in a heartbeat. plus we could flip emmerton and abdelkader for picks if we sign one or two of these guys.

Would take him in a heartbeat. Many teams would. $1.8-2.0M?

speculation is that Prust will be let go, so the Wings should have them on their radar.

Neither Emmerton or Abdelkader is going to be good for getting us much in the way of picks.

i want Prust almost as much as I want a Semin or Parise

thats how badly we need some toughness, grit, sandpaper and heart in our bottom 6

With said speculation being that Prust and Sather are roughly $1M apart. If he's priced himself off the Rangers, there's no way in hell I want a piece of him here. Players like Prust pretty much have to be developed internally because they're retardedly overpriced on the open market.

I like the way you think! I was actually thinking something along those very same lines, but I doubt Holland is willing to trade Abdelkader.

...which is unfortunate because do think Abdelkader would have some trade value, not much, but more than most people would think.

How does Prust fit in statistically with Wings forwards?

Season 2011-12

Fights:

Prust - 20

Red Wings total - 15
Abdelkader - 6
Bertuzzi - 2

Hits/minute:

Eaves 0.190
Abdelkader 0.149
Prust 0.147

Helm 0.098
Bertuzzi 0.087
Cleary 0.075
Holmström 0.064
Miller 0.062
Datsyuk 0.055

Blocks/minute:

Eaves 0.063
Mursak 0.059
Emmerton 0.054
Prust 0.052

Miller 0.052
Abdelkader 0.042
Conner 0.036

Takeaways/minute:

Datsyuk 0.071 (I'm not quite sure is Datsyuk the league leader, but he's quite near of it)
Nyquist 0.047
Conner 0.047
Emmerton 0.028
Helm 0.027
Zetterberg 0.026
Filppula 0.026
Cleary 0.023
Franzen 0.022
Mursak 0.021
Bertuzzi 0.019
Holmström 0.018
Eaves 0.018
Hudler 0.017
Abdelkader 0.016
Prust 0.015

Prust is interesting because of his physicality, but mainly we would get only more fights. He really fights a lot, that's it. Otherwise statistically, he is Abdelkader part II. Of course, it could be fun have two of those.

Abdelkader vs. Prust

8+14=22pts vs. 5+12=17 pts

6'1/219lbs - 6'0/190lbs

12:24 avg ice-time - 11:54 avg ice-time

2:25 SH avg ice-time - 1:40 SH avg ice-time

6 fights - 20 fights

0.149 hits/min - 0.147 hits/min

0.042 blocks/min - 0.052 blocks/min

0.016 takeaw/min - 0.015 takeaw/min

+1.5 -1.0 = +0.5 penalty ratio vs. +1.1 -0.9 = +0.2 penalty ratio

Didn't realize how often Mursak and Emmerton got in front of shots.

the advantage prust has is that he is nastier and grittier then our other bottom 6 guys, something we really could use an injection of

we are too soft and easy to play against and dont have enough skill and depth of skill to play keep away for 60 minutes for 82 games for 2 months of playoffs

I would love to see him in a Wings uniform. We cannot ignore the need to improve our bottom six come July 1.

Just say what you mean...he fights more.

There's nothing wrong with wanting a fighter like Prust, he's not useless in other area's so if we're going to add a fighter he's the kind I'd want.
