Pens have some good prospects on D, don't see them taking another one on, particularly if it's one they don't think will be top3/4 on the team. Lupul had a great season, but I don't think that the Pens would make this trade even if he was a consistent 70pt player (which I don't think he is).
So Pittsburgh rides James Reimer into the SC Finals?
The Penguins are an elite team...Schenn could still have a development curve next year, Reimer isn't good, Lupul is a good scoring winger but who knows if he repeats, and the 2nd is just another future the Pens dont need. How does this make them better?
Winger for Crosby, plus a young D man with huge upside?
Winger with injury history, young Dman who has good upside but is a reclamation project and would be competing with a number of players for a bottom pairing spot and they put their trust in a 36 year old Vokoun to handle a starters load.

I made this proposal by a couple of things put together. A lot of pens fans seem to have given up on Fleury since the Flyers series, and have already signed a pricey back up. Overall it does suit both teams needs. Lupul on Crosby's wing would be scary, and Schenn although always bashed here after a terrible year, people need to realize he is still young has a lot of potential and is being misused in Toronto. And Tornto needs, someone like Staal and MAF.
Seriously, how does the value work here though? Staal is easily worth Lupul, Reimer (who PIT does NOT need AT ALL) and 2nd + more, so is this supposed to be a Dman coming of an atrocious regular season for a goalie with questionable play offs or what? No, thanks.

Schenn if all turns out well will be an Volchenkov with a tad more points and a tad less blocked shots/BIG hits. There's really not much offensive upside there at all. He'll be a great shutdown dman no doubt, but he'll be a stay at home.

Lupul isnt some all world talent. Hes a good top six winger, but even some Leaf posters question whether he'll be able to repeat that season he had.
I'm not doubting Schenns ceiling, but Pittsburgh has no need for a defensman who could be riding pine next year if hes still playing like that come next year.
Reimer is a goalie prospect that COULD be good...again, why does Pitt want him when they arleady have MAF? Do you think Reimer coudl be better than MAF? And I think a lot of Pitt fans were just pissed at his PO performance, cant see them just giving up on him entirely.
It doenst "suit both teams needs," either, it suits the Leafs needs because they need a center and a proven goalie . The Pens already have Letang, Martin, Michalek, Orpik, Niskanen and Lovejoy with Despres and Morrow on the very soon horizon...Schenn just isn't really needed in Pittsburgh.
I like Lupul, and would love him on the Pens. I remember telling my cousin how well he would do in Toronto when he was traded. However his value to the Leafs is a lot higher than it is to anyone else. His injuries, career season, etc all leave question marks about future seasons, and where his actual value is (high, avg, etc).
If Lupul for Staal is being negotiated, the Leafs have to add something big enough to make the risk of Lupul not repeating last season. However they also can't give up too much... Unless Shero takes some risk (which he doesn't seem to do), I don't see a deal around these two players happening. And I don't think the Pens have anyone else on the roster they'd move who could get Lupul.
For Staal, I'd consider: Lupul, 2012 1st. Or Lupul, Holzer, Kulemin, but Pens fans would scream that there's too many unknowns/reclaimation projects.
Lastly, I doubt BB will move Lupul. It's not easy getting top 6 wingers unless you have enough other assets that are in demand. The Leafs do not have enough top 6 wingers to be trading the ones they do have.
It's a no from the Leafs and a HELL no from the Pens. This deal helps nobody. I don't understand the concept of this at all other than just to see if value is there. Both teams are so far against it.
