NHL Awards Show (Lundqvist wins Vezina!)

Interesting column by Tim Whamsby at CBC. He thinks Lundqvist will win the Hart AND the Ted Lindsay, over Malkin and Stamkos.

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opin...s-will-be.html

Quote:
Where would the Rangers have been without the stingy Swede? He was third in wins (39), third in save percentage (.930), fourth in goals against (1.97) and third in shutouts (eight).
He has Quick winning the Vezina.

Who do you think will win each award and why.

Behind the scenes at the NHL Award Show Host auditions

http://www.downgoesbrown.com/2012/06...-2012-nhl.html

Shanahan: OK, next up is… uh oh. John Tortorella.

Tortorella walks onto the stage and glowers at the judges. There's an awkward pause.

Tortorella: What?

Bettman: Um… OK, John. Thanks for auditioning. Let's have you read from the part of the script where you hand out the Hart Trophy. Go ahead and tell us who won the award.

Tortorella (icily): I think we've already covered that.

Bettman: No we haven't, John. Who won?

Tortorella: We'll just keep that in the room.

Shanahan: That doesn't even make sense.

Tortorella: We done here?

Hank should definitely win the Vezina.

I want him to at least place 2nd in the Hart voting behind Malkin. Stamkos does not deserve it.

How can he win the MVP as the best player but not win the best goalie? That doesn't make sense.

MVP goes to the MVP, not to the best player.

Different voters for each award. I think the writers vote for MVP, the GMs vote for Vezina. Writers can vote him MVP, GMs vote for Quick.

When I say player, I mean either it's a forward, goalie or defenseman.

If you win MVP as a goalie, I don't understand how you can't win the Vezina.

Oh really? That's cool to know

But still. It's just weird if Lundqvist wins MVP over everybody in the league but Quick wins the Vezina.

Or because some of us listen to actual music.

Though I haven't complained cuz i'm not gonna watch the ceremony, just google if Hank won what he deserves.

One reason is the post above. EDIT - Now a few posts above.

Another is that just because a goalie had a better season than another doesn't mean he was more valuable to his team.

For example, I think Quick was more valuable to the Kings than Lundqvist was to the Rangers because of how many times Quick kept them in the game. The amount of 1-0 losses he had were crazy. None of that means he had a better season than Lundqvist. Lundqvist plays in a much harder division for goalies. I think his numbers were more impressive, but he wasn't as important to the team as Quick was to LA.

Jonathan Quick would become the 4th straight American to win the Vezina. I want a Swede to win it and his name ain't Rinne

EDIT: Rinne is Finnish. My bad.

i'll be pissed if malkin wins the hart over stamkos (or lundqvist for that matter). what impact did he even have? he scored 100 points-- the majority of which were in meaningless games. every goal stamkos scored mattered and nobody else on that team did anything(exaggerating of course). pitts still would've made the playoffs without malkin

And for the record, I complain about Nickleback because they are a terrible band who plays terrible music. And for some ****ing reason they're everywhere in NHL land.
