Sens re-sign Erik Karlsson (7 years, $6.5M cap hit)

Quote:
Don't know if OTT's Erik Karlsson will win Norris Trophy but he may have new contract in matter of days. Negotiations ongoing in Las Vegas.

Expectation for Karlsson is 5 to 7 year term with cap hit of $6M or more. Not Drew Doughty money ($7m/yr) but close. Still being worked on.

If Karlsson manages to walk away with the norris why shouldn't he get "Doughty Money"? Last time I checked Doughty's Norris count is still at zero.

6m for his is a pretty solid deal if he keeps up the way he played last season. Guy was a beast.

I don't see how he walks away with less than Doughty money, unless the Senators cave and give him a contract that takes him straight to UFA.

Maybe Karlsson is more of a team player than Doughty and is willing to settle for less money to leave for cap space for other players on the team?

Maybe his agent sucks?

Maybe there will be under the table kickbacks in that he's getting 3 million/year to babysit Alfredsson's kids that the team is hoping the league won't notice?

Who knows.

If we could get him for 8 years at $6.25 million a year, I'd be happy. That's $50 million in total over 8 years. Actually, that's my prediction. It's a nice even number that I can see both parties agreeing on.

Erik Karlsson re-signs with the Senators for 8 years, $50 million ($6.25 mill per year). Book it.

That would lead to him being a UFA by contract's end, no? Cap hit would be better though.

LOL. I think proclaiming Doughty less of a team player for asking for what he believes he's worth is a little misguided. He looked like a team player in the playoffs.

I don't think he'll win the Norris, but at $6M per that's a good price. Less than guys like Bouwmeester and Campbell. He should be right up there with Doughty. Certainly one of the best defensemen in the League and should be payed as such. Not saying he's the best, but he's a superstar.

If he gets around $6M per, then I'd consider it a great deal.

I think he will do like Crosby and take his Jersey number for $$$
Basically 6.500 per year, over 5+ years.

39.000 over 6 years is my guess (6.500 per)

I doubt it will be 5-7 yrs. Sens are very keen on limiting it to 3.

He better not get the Norris, however based on his production I can see him getting 6.5 per for 5-9 years

Give him whatever he wants but 5 years isn't nearly long enough term. 10 years, 6.75 works for me. Either that or a deal short enough to keep him as an RFA again.

Anything near 6 would be an amazing deal on this kid, the more years the better.
