Two NHL insiders had told me last year a Bobby Ryan/Jonas Hiller deal for Ryan Miller was all but done and then the Lucic incident happened.

No way this can be accurate unless BUF was sending another key piece, not a big difference between Hiller and Miller.

Yeah, just one line segment. I'd probably assume it was a signed forward.

Maybe not this year, but before their was. Still not a Ryan like difference of course, when you consider age and everything. Also isn't it a possibility that Hiller may never return to old form?

If this was before the lucic incident i could believe it.
Hiller was coming off of a rough 2011 injury plagued season, Miller was coming off of a Vezna season.
there probably would have been a pick or something heading pack to the ducks, but this wouldn't have surprised me at all.

While not quite on the level of Comrie for Perry and a 1st, this one is right up there for the "good thing fate intervened" status.

It clearly wasn't a done deal since it wasn't actually done.

Yeah. Maybe Ryan + Hiller for Miller and Pomminville + 1st. Haha. Would have been terrible for the Ducks.

And worth noting Hiller ended up playing pretty dang well, whereas Miller went the other way

Hightly doubtful. If it is true I need to buy Milan Lucic a bottle of wine or something. Did more for the Ducks than any Ducks GM in the last 5 years.

Not true. Both goalies struggled throughout the first half of the season and both had strong finishes.

Uhhh What? After his slump early in the year, he was solid when Buffalo made a strong push to make it.

Miller at that time was considered the #1 goalie in the NHL.

Im sure there was more to the deal, Ducks probably wanted something Regier didnt want to give up. Probably one of the Sabres defense.

If this is true the Rangers should offer up Gaborik for Ryan and Perry.

It should, as Miller wasn't coming off a Vezina season. Not all that close, really. Hiller probably had the better season, actually, as he was on track for a Vezina nomination until his injury. This year, both goalies struggled enormously out of the gate. The difference between the two was very limited, and not remotely close to the difference betweeen Ryan and even a 1st round pick.

I'll take it for what it most likely is, a baseless rumor. There were rumors at the time about Miller wanting to move to California to be closer to his actress-girlfriend, and with Enroth getting more minutes, and Miller as well as Hiller struggling as hard as they did, some kind of move made a certain amount of sense at the time. This value, however, never did, and I'm guessing it's a pure fabrication based around the rumours around Miller back then building on the currently re-surfacing Ryan rumors.

It's quite obvious the 2 NHL insiders were Ek and Lund.

Doubt it. Why would Buff be looking to trade Miller before the Lucic incident? He was playing well, the team was off to a good start (10-5), etc.
