The thing that I like about Stoll was that he was there at the Richards press conference and didn't the Kings send him to Kansas City? He is always in LA, so Lombardi and Co. like to send him around to represent the club. That seems like a valuable commodity and shows good character.
I was happy The Sharks signed Burns, he is awful in his own zone (like Jack but worse).
He makes San Jose's average D worse... So that move I didn't mind.
I know, that team is a mess in the back. Boyle and Burns are forwards playing defense, Demers, and Braun are fringe players at best...
The only two guys worth their salt as defensemen on their back line are Murray and Vlasic. Murray is a lot of things, but at least the guy does his job. 3rd/4th Physical defensive defenseman.
Umberger having Philly ties means he is a lock to play for us at some point, he wears an A in Columbus however and has shown loyalty to the franchise so will be tough to get
Three regular contributors to this season’s team, Colin Fraser, Dustin Penner and Jarret Stoll, are due to be unrestricted free agents on July 1, and the Kings are open to the idea of bringing back all three under the proper circumstances. In terms of odds, Fraser and Stoll are more likely to return than Penner — I’d probably even put their status as “probable” — but there’s also a chance Penner could return on a short-term contract.

Demers is actually decent, don't know how you can say fringe and Murray is a good 5th/6th guy, not a 3/4..
Senators should thank Doughty and Dean for setting the bar for young defensemen who are nominated for a Norris trophy. Karlsson just signed a 7 year deal for $6.5 AAV.
Since the Blues fans think Pietrangelo is the best defenseman in the world. Guess he should be getting $7+ next off season.

He should easily get $9+ the way they talk about him...
3-4 years ago, sure... now? Absolutely not. Unless its a 1 year deal for the minimum amount, no way.
Umberger on the other hand, I'm not so opposed to.
Pretty much, expecting Ray to replicate his PHO success here (or anywhere) is laughable. Whitney is "the man" in PHO....he QB's the PP and gets match-ups to produce. On the Kings 3rd line he would be lucky to break 30pts.

Uhhh.......he wouldn't be playing on the 3rd line. He would take Penner's place with Carter and Richards.
lol that rule is so stupid. It's not like it is an advantage to 1 player, both players have the option to do it, and its not the sort of thing you try to do, you just do it when both centres sort of fall on the puck and try to get it out from under them. Whats next, a penalty for scoring a goal with a high stick?
LAS VEGAS - The National Hockey League’s Board of Governors, at its annual June meeting, today approved changes to two rules. Rule 67 – Handling Puck implements a minor penalty for use of the gloved hand to "conceal" the puck or prevent an opponent from playing it. Rule 76 – Face-Off implements a minor penalty for a player taking a face-off using his hand to direct the puck.
Rule 67 - Handling Puck
67.2 Minor Penalty – Player
A player shall be permitted to catch the puck out of the air but must immediately place it or knock it down to the ice. If he catches it and skates with it, either to avoid a check or to gain a territorial advantage over his opponent, a minor penalty shall be assessed for "closing his hand on the puck."
New, approved wording in italics:
Any time a player places his hand over the puck while it is on the ice in order to conceal it from or prevent an opponent from playing the puck, a minor penalty shall be assessed for "closing his hand on the puck."
When this is done in his own team's goal crease area, a penalty shot shall be assessed (67.4) or a goal awarded (67.5).
A minor penalty shall be imposed on a player who, while play is in progress, picks up the puck off the ice with his hand.
Rule 76 - Face-off
76.4 Procedure - Centers:
Both players facing-off are prohibited from batting the puck with their hand in an attempt to win the face-off. Any attempt by either center to win the face-off by batting the puck with their hand shall result in a minor penalty. This penalty shall be announced as a "Minor Penalty for Delay of Game - Face-off Violation." Once the face-off is deemed complete (and winner of the face-off is clear), hand passes shall be enforced as per Rule 79.
Uhhh.......he wouldn't be playing on the 3rd line. He would take Penner's place with Carter and Richards.
And who would forecheck on that line? They would never sustain any sort of pressure....

HUH?? Clearly favors the center in the defensive zone....can pass to his teammates no issue...offensive does it and play stops and faceoff is moving outside.

But it isn't something you do intentionally, since if you try and win a faceoff with your hand, you will be at a huge disadvantage to the guy with the stick. Should just toss the centremen out of the faceoff and re-do
The LA Kings aren’t in any hurry to move backup Jonathan Bernier…Contract talks between the Kings and Jarret Stoll are progressing and an agreement could be reached within a week. The Kings are also talking with pending UFA forward Colin Fraser…
The one guy I've always been interested in is JVR. I dunno what the package Philly is looking for, but wouldn't a Hickey/Martinez, Loktionov, Bernier package be pretty enticing? Imagine JVR playing on a line with Richards and Carter haha.
Just for the record, I wouldn't re-sign Penner, at all. I think he was great in the playoffs, but could've easily been the reason we missed the playoffs. If we do re-sign him, he plugs a hole at LW2 that could easily be upgraded via trade (as mentioned above JVR or Rick Nash) or signing someone like Parise. The lineup that I like the most, but won't probably happen is re-signing Colin Fraser but letting Stoll and Penner walk.
Oh, and speaking of ex-Flyers, keep Mike Knuble in mind! Lombardi has a HUGE man-crush on him, I remember he was interested him a couple years back. I called the Willie Mitchell signing early 2 years ago and the Scuderi one a while back, maybe i'll go 3 for 3 haha
