Really? Because it seems the general consensus is that you're wrong. If Karlsson isn't a #1 D-man, name me 10 D-men, playing now, who are better than Erik Karlsson. Enlighten me, sir.

Karlsson can't hold Chara's jock.

- Obliterated the rest of the league in points by a D-man.
- First D-man since Brian Leetch to have such a distance between him and the 2nd placed scoring D-man.
- An under-rated postional defensive game, with great stick checking.
- He's 21.
- He's been in the ASG.
- He's nominated for a Norris, again, at 21.
- It's been 2.5 seasons now of great hockey, with 1.0 season of OUTSTANDING hockey.

What is your case?
I'm sorry, I like the Sens, and Karlsson.... but really?

First two points indicate nothing about being #1 defenseman. The bolded is opinion. Italicized is more a set of irrelevant points (age, 21? That means nothing! Been in the ASG? An ASG for OFFENSE? Hosted in OTTAWA?! And who wouldn't be 'nominated' for Norris with those point totals? Doesn't mean he has a chance of winning...).

You will have to do far better than that list full of empty BS (what, are we writing a college essay?). I do not believe he is a #1 at all yet. Top 4, yes. Elite offensively with limitless potential? For sure... a true #1 now (not just serving as that)? Nope. Not yet.

I really wouldn't care at all but the defensiveness and blind homerism sometimes....

Thank you Senators for making a reasonable contract...now the Blues have something to compare Pietrangelo to for next year's contract (other than Doughty).

His defense is improving, so no need for the ridiculous amount of unfair criticism.

Besides before he exploded this year most sens fans realized how special his game is and so far he has shown me nothing that would suggest he cant surpass what he has done this season.

Overpayment. Kuba covered him all year a long, and Spezza made him offensively.

I wouldn't bank on him breaking 75+ points again, but I've been wrong before. Still a solid signing though. He's been blessed with Gretzky vision and can dictate the style of the game easily. He's good defensively. Just not the greatest and I think that has more to do with his small frame, and high risk high reward. Think it can be taught. Good signing overall. Can't believe the Nucks passed up on him.

Erik Karlsson plays for the Sens, Sens fans are happy, Karlsson is happy who gives a crap about what other fan base think. And one more thing if you think you'll change our mind about Karlsson your crazy. We think is a top 5 D right now and will still improve, is the best we love him here.

When you consider Karlsson weak defensively but Byfulien a better true #1 then yeah, I'm probably dead on.

And more. However, Karlsson at this point would be beyond perfect as our #2 next to Chara! He's got talent for sure... still needs development though. Wait until he does play on the PK, then I will accept that he is as good defensively as some people say.

Being 21 is irrelevant? Tell me the average prime of NHL players. I could of sworn it was mid-late twenties. Again, you CLEARLY don't watch enough of Erik Karlsson if you think that he doesn't have an under-rated positional defensive game. He puts up 25+ minutes a night playing against the very best players.

You see that giant, blue circle right at the top of this chart? Well, it shows that Erik Karlsson played against the best players in the NHL last season while BADLY out shooting the opposition while he was on ice. His zone starting is average and is used defensively almost just as much as he is offensively.

Blind homerism? Sure. Think what you wish, but I'll be happy with our elite, #1 D-man for the next 7 years.

If you think Byfuglien is a #1 then I'm not sure how credible you are.
