Last guy who created a mess here won us a Cup and no, salary wise we are all good. Eventually our top 4 will all be paid well and when that happens, Hammer and Montador get traded. But I like the loaded D for this coming season, then re-evaluate based on the cap situation and team needs.

Right, the Huet, Campbell, deals did nothing to hurt this team at all.

i don't think that was his point though. I think his point was that those contracts were horrible and we wouldn't have won a cup if he hadn't been fortunate enough to have some of our best players on ELCs.

To add to that, I think Coldice would rather Stan take a few chances. Not sit on his hands AGAIN, while the rest of the West keeps getting better.

As for the comment about Keith possibly being upset about playing as the 3rd dman. Well, BOOHOO. This is part of the problem. Hawks need the coaching staff to start cracking the whip, and I think that was the main reason that Havs was fired.

Keith seems like one of the least likely guys to throw a fit about moving down the depth chart.

If anything, it'd probably be motivation for him.

It's not Keiths fault Q keeps pairing him with a new partner everyday usually a rookie who doesn't understand what he is doing so instead of Keith being allowed to play like Keith he has to babysit, Olsen, Leddy, whoever else.

That's why getting a true #3 D-man would be so important for this team. It allows Keith and Seabs to be paired together and for them to be one of the best pairings in the league. It puts people like Hammer, Oduya, Leddy and Montador in their proper places instead of relying on them to be something they aren't and it would help the PP and PK.

I think the plan is to leave the D as pat and that it will help Keith that way. You don't need a so called legit 3rd D-man to keep Keith and Seabs paired. The collection of 6 guys they have now is meant ot allow Q to be able to play that 3rd line, potentially Leddy/Montador/whoever the 7th D-man fill becomes, to play 13+ minutes instead of 8 minutes a game. Allowing Keith and Seabs to play a whole lot less.

Hammer and Oduya aren't mismatched for a 2nd line pairing. If Hammer can develop his own game a bit more instead of trying to be something more like this style or that style.. They can be overall a pairing just as good as it was with Campbell and Hammer.

Having a quality #5 & #6 that are not complete liabilities would help too. Keith wouldn't have to play 30+ minutes a night which is probably contributing to his declining play. Hawks were basically rolling with 4 1/2 Dmen during the playoffs.
