I wouldn't mind this as a way of giving Nelson/Strome another year before they step into the NHL. And this would slide Nielsen down to a much more appropriate 3rd line role.

But 5 years $5M per? Come on, that's nuts. I could see a 2 year deal at $4M a year.

No one's giving him 5 for 5. $5M for 2 years or $4M for 3 years.

Good player. Not a floater, he was injured down the stretch. He'll be a very effective two way center on the team he signs. Not sad to see him go though.

If the Isles were going to pay someone $5m per, they would not be in a contract impasse with Parenteau.

Tavares will only make $4m next season.

Watch the games and not the box score?

Jokinen is not even close to being worth 5 million a year.

I would just like to know how the Isles are "going hard after Jokinen" right now. Wouldnt that be tampering?

They can't include bonuses in his contract, other than a signing bonus. Performance bonuses can only be given in ELCs and 1 year contracts to players who are 35+ or who are coming off a season in which they lost significant time to injury.

Keep speculating.

The isles aren't trading for JayBo's $6.6m.

I'm not even sure if they can get Jokinen, who I think they'd like short term.At 33,he will want a long term deal.

$4M for 3 years? I could see that happening, especially for a team like the Islanders looking to add scoring depth and reach cap floor. Jokinen is a top6 center, even if only for a few more years. Not easy to find those.

uh maybe because he's a big 60 point player with experience and has great 2 way ability in a market that is really low in the center position

Yea that's not gonna happen. Wang is cheap as it is, overpaying for a shell of a Jokinen is just dumb.
Isles won't take on Jbo & his massive overpayment on top of signing Olli then give up #4.

If its a 1-year deal and about 3-4 million, then why not. I watched few Flames games last season and he was quite good in those.

Not going to happen. He would resign in Calgary if that was the case.

He will be looking for a three to four year deal around 4.5M per season, and judging by the current free agent market I think he will get that.

If its a short term deal, I think your looking at a minimum caphit of five million bucks.

this was my first thought. A five year deal at 5mill a year is a joke.
