Theodore was better than Price last year. Not sure how he earned 6M+ a year, seems like we would be outbidding ourselves.

How was Theodore better? They had the same stats with Price playing on a team having a horrible year versus Theodore on a team having a much better year in a weak division. I think if they switch places Price has much better numbers.

2 didn't he? 02 and 04 against the Bruins.

Yep, Theo is 35 price is 24, yet theo has one more series win then him in his career. Not comparable at all. Price at age 24 has won a calder cup, world championship, theo did neither of these things.

Theo was also not a big goalie like Price is and had terrible hands comparatively. Not comparable at all.

Price is a superstar, 3 out of 4 seasons in his young career he's been to the all star game. Who else can say that at age 24?

We have nothing in the system, it takes many years to develop a goalie, like 5-6-7, longer than other positions usually. Plus, hes a pretty damn good goalie. Price is the guy for us, we go all in and sign him to no less than 5 , 6-7 is better, at $5.5-$6.25 or thereabouts.

im assuming you meant junior championship...

Wiki page: , ''Theodore has won a gold with Team Canada at the 1996 World Junior Championships, winning the tournament's Best Goaltender award.''

I thought he was the winning goaltender, i still have his Upper Deck rookie card of him in the tournament.

How good is Carey Price on the penalty kill? By all means he has some tools to be a good penalty killer: hands, size...

This is pure craziness, the guy finally had one monster season and we are ready to give him the moon. Halak is getting 4.5m and he's top 10 in the league also.

Give him anything above 6m and it's going to bite us in the ass. There's a bunch of goalies in the NHL that can get the job done and would be asking half the amount we are ready to pay for Price.

He's good but please don't give him a contract just because he's supposed to be the next Patrick Roy. Atleast wait some more before we do...

All I can say about this is: look at what's happening right now in the league.

A lot of teams are scrambling for good goaltending and the market is BONE dry. Yzerman just had to overpay hard for Lindback, who's probably a good goalie but nothing like what Carey has the potential of being. Anyone who bashes this guy obviously only watches the highlights of the games and not the game in their entirety. I've seen him make more highlight reel saves at key times to keep games close then I can remember. Sure, he gives up some bad goals now and then and he wasn't great in the shootouts last year but the guy's only 24 years old. He's going to be a force with all of the D-men we've got coming and thus, has to be paid like one.

I'd say 5-6 years with a caphit of somewhere around 6.3-6.5. Pay your franchise guy.

If you asked NHL GM's I don't think very many of them would ahve Halak in their top 10. I think 95% of them would ahve Price ahead of Halak.

Go look at Price's numbers, he played behind a banged up team that has a terrible year and he still had above average numbers for a starter. Compare those stats to what Roloson, Reimer or Mason have on teams around us in the standings.

Good goalies carry bad teams.

Even though Price had respectable numbers, he didn't really have a great season individually. Something was off from the start, it might've been the huge amount of pressure from 2010-2011 coming off and he thought everything was going to be easier.

For goalies who played 50 or more games,

carey is 13th for GAA
and 11th for save %

Goalies who played 35 or 40 games have skewed stats for reasons obvious to any knowledgeable hockey person. Thanks

I never said Price had a bad season this year,he had like you said above average season but he did cooled down compared to his previous season.

The way I see it...we could have kept Halak in net who is a top 10 goalie get Perron instead of Eller and save 1.5m-2m. Doesn't make sense to give him 6m+ for someone who had a 1 monster season and POTENTIAL. He needs to show more until he breaks the bank or else it could back fire big time...ask Philly.

Philly goalies blow historically. None were drafted 5th overall.
Also Halak is not a top 10 goalie for the simple reason that he can not carry the workload of a real number 1.

I can't for the life of me believe that guys on this forum seriously think Price is just an average goalie. Makes me sick.

I don't care how much he gets paid but I want it done before someone gives him an offer sheet because there are teams that are that desperate for goaltending right now.

Price has won one series. Theo has won 4. Price was a superstar 1 season so far. This year was nothing special. He had a pretty good end to his rookie year but he crapped the bed really hard in the playoffs. He was voted to one of the all star games, the year that he was atrocious in 09. And the only reason he went this year is because they needed at least one hab at the game. Just saying, we need to think long and hard before shelling out 6 million.

Same here...

Whatever, he's gonna sign 6-7 years @ 6-6.5M IMO and it wont be overpayment.

This board makes me laugh sometimes... We should throw Semin 9M and offer Price 4.5... Makes no sense whatsoever.

Lol do your homework if your going to start going off on people. I know what I'm talking. Doesn't matter if it's revisionist history. And he won two series with Montreal.
